Just got Guitar Hero 2 for 360!

Postby Superjay » April 12th, 2007, 10:38 am

My friend brought 2 guitars and the game to my house an a group of us including my wife played it the whole day. I haven't had that much fun a group setting in a long time. I thought it was so fun I bought 2 guitars and the game myself. It really makes you feel like your playing a real guitar. Anybody else have this game or the original? Does anybody hav the ps2 version?

Yeah, I really liked the song selection in the first one better.  There's nothing better than playing Boston's More Than a Feeling.  I've got GH2 on the PS2 as well and really enjoyed it though it just lacks the same great song lineup the first one had.  I've ordered the 360 version 'cause I'm a sucker and should be in by the end of the week.  However, if I would have known song packs were going for $6+ for 3 songs I might have passed.

I'd love to get Collective Soul's Shine, anything from Dave Matthews or Zep and I'll be happy but who knows what downloadable content they'll have available.

Got Guitar Hero 1 and 2 for the PS2. I don't want it for the 360 'cause it would likely be the same thing except content that's on the Marketplace.

I want that game mainly because Pearl Jam is on it!:-) I want to kill the guy at EGM who reviewed it and trashed that("Life Wasted by Pearl jam-blech!"). Also, I love Iron Maiden so it will probably be the first title I pick up for the 360.:-)

I was determined to invest in this game, because of the possibility of downloading all of the songs from Guitar Hero 1 on XBOX Live.  But the prices -- geez.  To get every song from the original GH on XBOX Live would cost AS MUCH at least, if not more, than Guitar Hero on the PS2 when it was first released (including the guitar).  There's been a revolt on Gamespot about this.

Jeff Gertsmann is, I guess an all-around gamer, but lately he's been heavily addicted to the 360.  Most of his blog posts have to do with achievement points reports, among other 360 tidbits.  But this recent pricing bothered him enough to write this blog on the subject.

I may still get this eventually on the 360, but the incentive is largely gone with the pricing of the original songs being so out-of-whack.

To be fair, that's like saying "it's just the same as the old game, except that now the game is basically unlimited in potential enjoyment".

Only if you have unlimited money. It's $6 for a pack of 3 songs from the original game; that's ridiculous. They better not charge more for new songs.

I bought all three packs because I don't want to get the ps2 version and I heard the 360 version has added bass and rythm parts. I don't mind the price because me and my wife love it. I understand someone who actually bought the first one laughing at the thought of paying for those same songs again. It gives my wife and I someting to do other than watch TV and well you know.

Yeah, $2 a pop for new songs isn't that bad if you could choose which songs you wanted; however, the grouping of three is completely random.  I'm not paying $4 extra for songs I don't even like.

If they bundled everything for $30 from GH1 then it would be a no brainer purchase for me, but at $60, um, no, thank you.

For new songs, $2 a pop is reasonable but these songs have already been coded so it's a complete screw.  I love guitar hero but seriously if they make guitar hero 3 with any worse of a soundtrack I'm not buying it.  I swear they listened to 16 year olds when they made the soundtrack for GH2.  A majority of the songs are by bands I've never heard of.

We need a little AC/DC, Zep, Metalica or my hope, Collective Soul's Shine in GH3.  Failing that I'd gladly take some more Stevie Ray, ZZ Top, or Hendrix from GH1.

I'm not trying to troll here but I am geniuinely curious.  For the price of the game with the standard 1 controller you could get a decent second hand acoustic.  For the price of the game with two controllers you could get a second hand Fender Strat Squire - the standard learner's electric guitar workhorse.  I used to play the guitar myself but don't have the time these days to play.  I was just wondering why this game is more appealing than picking up a real guitar?
