Okay, am I reading that right to read it as a Star trek reference? If not, how geeky am I. Well, even if it was intended that way, man how geeky am I?

Oh Lord, I didn't catch the Picard reference. If that was the case, pity me for not being geeky enough (at least in this instance) to catch something so obvious.

Quill and Actraiser are right. I will have to pay 134.99. I tried about the fact that I bought it 6 months ago but they didn't care. I wasn't going to pay it but my wife told me she would find a way to get money to pay it. I love her. Anyway this experience has soured my position on loving the xbox brand so much. I'm going to be selling half of my 360 games and I'm going to do whatever it takes to get a wii. This is the second time microsoft has f'' me. They messed me up when I had to buy the 360 through ebay because they couldn't fill reservations. No more. I will treat them like everyone else. Anyway thanks everyone for the positive feedback.

I thought I'd seen it all when Sega Saturn X started to diss Nintendo, but this is huge. That is, without a doubt, horrible. $134.99 for a company to to fix their own product that is that well known for breaking is terrible. It's like Microsoft is afraid to beat Sony, so they're doing what they can to hurt their brand.
I'm not much of one for the fuzzy math employed by Sony fanboys to show that the 360 is more expensive than the PS3 (as all of it is silly), but in this particular case:
$399
+$135
----------------
$534 for a 360.
It does not look quite so good anymore. Harsh. My sympathies.
Wait, aren't you the guy with a Neo Geo? What are you doing playing the 360 anyway?
Yes I do have a neo geo aes and cd but the games are quite expensive. The 360 for me cost me alot more than that dude. I bought it on ebay because I waited on two lines and never got one. I reserved it and Gamestop told me I would get it the next year so I had to buy it on ebay. I must have paid around$600 + $140 +$29 for every additional year of waranty I want. That's not including the $50 for the multiplayer Gold Membership. In the end I will be paying over $1000. I have to say out of all the systems out there Microsoft has the worst QA department ever. I've had to replace my regular xbox like 3 times but I didn't have to pay because I bought it from the store and had the replacement plan. Anyway learn from my mistakes everyone. Never be impatient when it comes to new systems. If you have to wait 6 months wait it out till you can buy it from a store and get a plan just in case. Especially if its a Microsoft product. They must have a timer in the things that tick for about a year before they self destruct.

That was one of the funniest skits I've ever seen on SNL. To this day though I have no idea why. It cracked me up for completely unknown reasons.

I am in the same boat, though it wasn't because of Guitar Hero. My 360 has been working fine for a few hours, then shutting off and showing the red ring of death suddenly and without warning. Last night, when I stuck in Call of Cthulhu, the period of time was less than a few seconds after turning the thing on. So now I have to deal with 360 customer support. Luckily, this system is about a month shy of the 1-year warranty period expiring.

I hope everything works out for you and make sure you get and extra year for $25. These consoles must be made with cheap materials.

I really hope that Microsoft fixes these problems with "The Elite". Never in my life have I seen a console so poorly made. Personally I have never had a console break on me *knocks on wood*, but my 360 scares me. I already had one friend lose his (he screwed wal*mart and pulled the ol switch a roo to get around the $134 fee) and my cousin thinks his is about to break. My cousin is so afraid to play his 360 right now that he doesn't.
I know alot of people had faulty PS2s, but at least that one you could blame on percentages (bound to be alot of broken consoles when you got over 100,000,000 units out there). The 360 just isn't a well made console...you can't tell me it is. I wish it was though , because it would be a perfect gaming machine.

According to Gamespot, no such luck: http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=25577844&sid=6169500. Apparently the 360 Elite doesn't even have the quieter DVD drives that newer manufactured Core and Premium models have. I was planning on getting this, but after reading this I just don't know if it's worth it.

WOW! That blows. Damn Microsoft is really dropping the ball on this. The Elite is a perfect chance for them to correct all the errors made with the 360. It seems that all they are doing is adding a bigger hard drive and HDMI support. Where is the wi-fi? At the very least gimme the WI-FI dammit! The Elite is looking like a total ripoff to me. I really don't think I would recommend it to someone who was interested in the system. I would tell them to save there money and get the $400 360...or pony up and get a PS3 instead.

Ditto, that's what I did month 7 into my first 360. Three weeks later they extended the warranty to a full year so I would have been covered. Regardless, Target covered me...
