Getting Mad At Nintendo

Postby a1 » April 15th, 2007, 1:16 am

Maybe I really am a fanboy, but I don't think Nintendo is holding back. First off, it really isn't good for business at this point. The system already has plenty of hype, and the only thing that holding consoles back will do is frustrate people until: a) they give up on trying to find one or b) they create conspiracy theories about Nintendo holding back production (which in this scenario would be true).

I really do think Nintendo just can't meet demand. I mean, after the Gamecube did only relatively well how could Nintendo possibly think they'd sell all 2 million Wiis they had ready at launch so quickly? Even less how would they think the Wii would still be selling so quickly? I don't think anyone expected it to be this popular. Just check the circulars in your Sunday paper critic, and do it early so you can get down to Circuit City. They're still handing out vouchers!

Maybe it's just me but, I saw some Wiis at a Wal-Mart a couple weeks ago. While I was trying to play Guitar Hero II at the store, try and figure the Xbox 360, and watching the end of the original Teenage Turtles film,(Dont ask why of the turtle film) the Wiis were sold. I think there was 2 or 3 boxes got sold. Super Smash Bros. and Mario Galaxy are going to come. Smash Bros. got Solid Snake in the the game. I hope they got Sonic soon

I may be hated for this but Critic: Do not get one. I gave up immediately at launch and I still do not even think about the Wii.

Futureshop (which is owned by Bestbuy), Recieved Many Wii's up until about a month ago, then the shipments became sparse, however this week made up for that as we recieved 14 Wii's on friday and will recieve another 6 tomorrow. There was a statement from Nintendo released to our corporate headquarters stating that production was down from the end of march/start of april but that it would be fixed shortly.

This didn't stop people from buying games, controllers, accessories for the Wii's they have no even purchased. I know of one gentlement who has SEVEN games and has yet to purchase a Wii.

Not hated, but largely disregarded.

If anybody thinks they are NOT holding back you are WRONG! I have various connections at Gamestop, Best Buy and EBGames and they all tell me the same thing. No shipments for weeks and when they do they get about 3 or 4 in. More come in for Best Buy but the shipments are still spread out over several weeks.

I asked the manager at Gamestop if he was still getting 20 calls a day for the Wii and he stated that it is more like 4 or 5. I think this strategy might back fire on Nintendo. Limiting supply will keep up demand but if you limit it too much people will stop calling and stop caring which seems to be the case.

Oh, relax Mozart.

Also, I doubt not having Wii reviews had a lot to do with the Critic getting cut from Game Rankings.

All we have to go on is what Mr. Alessi said himself.  As I mentioned before, he's on my Gamespot friends list, and I contacted him through that.  He specifically cited that as one of the major reasons.

By the way, I am perfectly relaxed.  People IRL consider me a very laid back person.  In fact, I think I come across as an overbearing intellectual-wannabe on forums like this, but I am much more relaxed and studious in person.  One time someone on Gamespot asked me if I had high blood pressure.  I actually have very low blood pressure, and I've never been able to get it to rise to normal levels.

<SARCASM>Oh, well thanks for clearing that up.</SARCASM>  I don't trust a single thing that anyone at Gamestop says in this matter because they are going largely on what their own corporate big wigs are telling them to say.

Well we all know that's what you're hoping.  Given that it's still selling more than the other two consoles, I don't think they're in so much danger as you would hope they are in.
