Getting Mad At Nintendo

Why would they lie? Besides, I know these people and they are not "doing what the man tells them to do". Give me a break. I don't want Nintendo to fail I just want them to release the systems and stop playing games. I don't care who sells the most consoles.

It's just a bit too universal at Gamestop and not elsewhere. The minute their CEO came out with that supposition, every employee at Gamespot claimed it, at practically every store in Houston, started claiming that to be the case, and not before.

I don't know if it's happening. Truthfully I think it is, but having those employees at Gamestop handing me that is almost so reverse-credible, that it does damage to the whole argument to begin with. I've just been told way too much BS by Gamespot employees before for this to be taken seriously.

Give ME a break! You obviously want Nintendo to fail! You've obviously wanted it for a long time. It's practically been your fixation on this board. You can't exhibit this behavior and not have someone notice it. It's as obvious to me that you want Nintendo to fail as it is obvious to me that some on here (not all) really want Sony to fail.

Let me take a minute and just say my position has always been that while I like what Nintendo is doing these days more, that the video game world is better off by having everyone succeed.

No one is ever really going to know if Nintendo is holding back or not, unless someone leaks something to the press. Which seems unlikely.

How does this prove that Nintendo is holding back? All it proves is that they are short of supply. I agree that this supposed strategy would only be damaging to Nintendo at this point, which is why I don't think it is what they are doing. I am not surprised one bit at the shortage. I'm sure Nintendo was a bit cautious considering the completely different direction that the system was asking gamers to go, and now that it is a hit, everybody wants one. I see no reason to think they are STILL holding back. They ultimately want to sell consoles, remember.

Haha, I actually hope the Critic does that. Put a big sign on teh site that says, "The Video Game Critic refuses to get a Wii! This is because Video Game Critic reviews gaming machines, not 'non-gaming' machines!" Oh, the hate mail would be so delicious!

Uh....holding back? We have had a steady supply of Wii's in the past 3 weeks here at our Wal*mart in Rockland, Maine. I've gone there many times and they do sell out but they get more in pretty fast.

Granted, this is one mall in a small town, but if they were holding back to hype it up, we wouldn't get ANY.

I would think they'd WANT to sell systems. When Xbox360 came out I didn't hear of shortages. And it sold well and has become very popular, it's either 2 or 1 in the nextgen race right now (certainly Sony is #3 with PS3). Wouldn't Nintendo want to outsell X360? If Wii is not available some people might buy ANOTHER nextgen. Just a thought!

I have it on good authority from an inside source that Nintendo in fact has been holding back. However, due to pressure however, they are "opening the flood gates" starting next week. So if Wii systems suddenly become widely available next week, we know this was true.

Yep, I heard that was about to happen myself. I think the shortage of systems masks the fact that the library has been pretty weak lately too.

"I'VE GOT TO GET ONE!"

is a better complaint than

"Wait a minute... why did I get one?"

in Nintendo's eyes.

It's just hard to compare the libraries of the Wii's and the 360's for obvious reasons. I think the Wii is great, but it is not for everyone. I just bought the one I was borrowing off my friend b/c there is absolutely no games for it he wants until Smash Brothers. Yea me!

What capacity is the good authority? I am not asking in order to cast doubt on it. As I said before, I am quite aggravated at the supply issues. And I don't expect you to name someone, but I would like to know what capacity the good authority would be serving in.

Critic, I can tell you first hand that Nintendo wouldn't hold back Wiis. I was at my local Fred Meyer in December, and there were 4 Wiis in stock. I managed to get one. Then, the other three, I swear, were gone in under 5 minutes. It is good to know that there will be much larger shipments in the near future for others who want to buy the Wii.
