The Video Game Critic

I'm a few hours into God of War 2, and I'm amazed at this thing.  The first GoW was a masterpiece, but this sequel is faster paced and larger in scale.  There are times when this game actually gives me vertigo.  The stages are very well crafted and your objectives are intuitive. 

One slight flaw I noticed is some occasional "waves" on the screen, but I assume this is because the engine pushes the PS2 so hard.  Has anybody else noticed this?  Also, the scripted (yet mind-blowing) first stage made me feel like the game was playing me, but that feeling subsided as I progressed.

I've noticed some slight framerate hiccups but I guess this is to be expected given the PS2's limitations.  Still an awesome game though, and a great way to close this generation of consoles.

Still don't have it but I want it.

I don't know about the best game ever for the PS2, but I do think it's one of the graphically prettiest games ever for the PS2.  If you had told me I was playing a PS3 game when you put it on Dave I would have believed you.

God of War 2 is certainly one of the best PS2 games I've ever played, and the best game I've played since Okami.  Also, like Okami, I think it really shows how video games are becoming more and more capable of telling truly gripping stories and how they're further proving that games can be works of art. 

That first level in, particular, is perhaps the best opening level in any game I've ever played, and I love how seemlessly the game melds the story with the gameplay, yet never shortchanging one or the other. Take that, Kingdom Hearts 2!
