Another 3D convert...

Most people who know me on here know I don't go for 3D games, I like old school 2D. I didn't get 3Ds appeal. Until today.

Recently a Freind gave me 5 games for my second hand XBOX I scored for $21. I have been playing TETRIS WORLDS and NAMCO COLLECTION mostly but today I really tried Grand theft auto: San Andreas. I popped it in before and watched the intro and stuff, but didn't really give it a chance.

Let me pause and say That one of my favorite things to do in real life is ride my bike places and explore woods, gravel pits, etc.. I'm a nature nut.

Well, first thing you do in this game is get on a bike. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO, but I just went riding for fun, and it REALLY WAS FUN! Something you couldn't do in a 2D game. I love trains too, so I rode through the train tunnel....out the other end and crashed into a huge tree in a meadow by a lake. Then I went swimming to the other side, found a dock with an abandoned shack, cable reels and an EMPTY wheelchair! Hmm! It was fascinating!

So I GET the appeal of these games. I'd rather do this in real life but today it is raining, I'm sick, and it's still freezing cold here in Maine. I'm in the hospital a lot and exploring stuff in this way really is cool! So yeah, I still like 2D best but I GET 3D! It rocks!

(Does anybody know where I'm really supposed to go on the bike? Also, any cool codes you know of?Thanks!)

Have you played Wind Waker? Certainly one of the most atmospheric, artistically beautiful exploration games out there, with tons of little islands to explore, some full of life, with a lot of interesting characters. I think you'd really like it.

Then there's the Myst series, of course. For pure atmosphere, nothing can beat those games, though it does force you to jump between fixed locations with a point-and-click interface rather than explore on your own. Still great games, though.

I recommend you check out Jet Set Radio Future if you ever get a chance as that game has a phenominal art style mixed with a good bit of exploration.  As previously mentioned sounds like you might like Morrowind too.

...I don't really like RPGs of ANY kind, I got Knights of the old republic too and just don't have the patience for it.... isn't MORROWIND an RPG? Or can you just ignore the quest and explore?

What about the other GTA games? Is San Andreas the best, or-? Any others I might like? How about Vice City?

I like humorous games too. Any 3D exploration games for the Xbox or Psone or 2 with an "EARTHBOUND" type feel? (like I said, not into RPGs but I keep reading that one is hysterical).

Morrowind (RPG) pretty much lets you just explore forever.  Goodluck even sticking to the main plot.  Vice City for me was the best of the bunch.  For a 3D game that's great, give either Pychonauts (funny) or Beyond Good and Evil (great story) a try.  Both are awesome.

Just Cause let's you explore a massive series of Hawaiin islands.  Haven't played it yet myself but people seem to say good things.

Yeah San Andreas is the best of the GTA series so far for exploring. In Vice City you cant swim, you just drown once you land in water (the guy can jump out of a speeding car at 100 mph but cant swim?).

Well, I almost hate to recommend this.....

but I bought Animal Crossing for the NES games and am now addicted to the actual game. Its a really different game, simple but in some ways surprisingly deep. Its the kind of game you want to play everyday, 10 minutes a day, which is the kind of game I like. You don't have to put a ton of time into it to get something out of it, and yet it is rewarding to keep playing.

You have posted you are an outdoors person, and this game has that kind of vibe, (granted no game can substitute for the real thing) so you might get a kick out of it. Plus the NES games are a really nice bonus. I never really cared for DK, but now I am kind of addicted. I had never played Ballon Fight before, but it is a FUN game! On the other hand, the sports games blow and Excitebike isn't as fun as I remebered, but overall it is a good game.
