Ok, someone started a thread about favorite packaging, and I was wondering about your favorite box art.

I'm still thinking......

The 7800/ 2600 had some great artwork for their games. It helped kick start your imagination since you were basically looking at a block, blobs and a line half the time.

I would have to say this one:

And a cool ad that uses it:

Hey M.D. -(are you a doctor?) - I was the one who said Imagic had the best boxes in the other thread! Just making sure I get credit...

I also liked Colecovisions boxes. Most of their coin-op adaptations were of games we never SAW, so it was super cool having a picture of the real coin-op machine. Later on, the box for ILLUSIONS was perhaps the most surreal photo art ever- stuffed iguanas climbing steps of white, spilled paint,-WEIRD!

How about most boring box art? ATARISOFT made some EXCELLENT games but the boxes sucked! All orange with just the name and a tiny triangular picture in the upper right- often re-using atari 2600 box art!

Most boring box art? Hmm, those ugly grey Nintendo boxes come to mind. Metroid for example...

Shadow of the Colossus has a great cover. I'm sure I'll think of more later.

Boring? Nothing beats the Sega Master system for a cavalcade of terrible box art.

Well, I'm a little young to know what all of the 2600 era box art was like (and tore through the NES/SNES/N64 boxes without caring), although I don't doubt it was great.

My favorites have to be the painting look...Duke Nukem 3D, Far Cry Instincts, Star Control for the Genesis, Doom etc.  A lot of FPSs, I know, but that's the box art style I like.
