Question for the VGC

Hi. Do you plan on buying any more of the older systems that you don't currently have like the Amiga CD32, Balley Astrocade, APF Imagination Machine, Emerson Arcadia 2001, or the Amstrad GX4000? I enjoy your reviews and would like to see your takes on these lesser known machines and their games.

I already asked this awhile back. The critic has stated that he drew the line on the Odyssey2 for lesser-played systems. Channel F, Emerson, Astrocade and the like are unlikely to ever be on here. Considering the critic laughed off the N-Gauge I doubt you'll see CD32 or other esoteric systems.
It's likely the VGC is only interested in the NextGen right now, PS3, X360 and-when he can get one-Wii. One reason is he already HAS too many systems, not enough time, to please everyone!
So let me rephrase this question. Is anyone aware of sites that DO support game reviews of these lesser known systems? The only one I know is www.digitpress.com

I actually came this close to buying a Bally Astrocade on Ebay about a year ago, but that was the last time I attempted to acquire another "classic" system. If I stumble across a good deal on one, I might be tempted, but in general I don't think I'm missing much. Besides time, space is another issue. I have a pretty big game room, but I'm packed in there pretty tightly as it is. I'm a bit relieved that the Wii will be the last console I need to buy for a few years.

I was quite surprised the critic didn't have a CD32, because it was pretty popular (and even mainstream) over here, and was far more popular than the likes of 3DO and Jaguar (and don't even mention the CDi). Of course I remember now that it didn't do as well in America to put it mildly.
The success of the Amiga in this country was phenomenal and the CD32 wa essentially an upper end Amiga in a console (a kind of precursor to Xbox I suppose in a rather odd way) and most of the best Amiga games made their way onto the system, often enhanced. Also with various attachments you could play the old disk based games too. It never quite had the success of the Amiga computers of course but did quite well and had a formidable library if you don't have an Amiga computer (which Idaresay most Americans won't).
I don't know how appealing exploring the European games market is for The Critic, but I guess a collecter like him might enjoy the CD32.

Iain, I am Amerikan, dah, veily! ... and anyhoo, I owned an AMIGA computer. It was by far one of my favorite computers of all time, much better at games than MAC or PC. In addition to commercial games like SHINOBI, OUTRUN, AFTERBURNER, COOL WORLD and others I had dozens of shareware games that rocked! Fan-made versions of DONKEY KONG and POPEYE (each with an EXTRA screen than the arcade!) and tons of fun variations on PAC MAN and FROGGER! I had to sell it to help finance my first "real" Windows PC purchase
): but I REALLY miss that machine!
Critic, I'd reccomend a real Amiga computer with CD rom over CD32! The Amiga was like a cross between a classic console with the BEST versions and a souped-up 256 color Genesis!

So many good games were made for the Amiga, more than for the PC back then I think.
The Amiga computer was always kind of the Holy Grail of machines here, at least until the SNES came along, and it was always a very exciting machine, often more like a console in terms of the games it had, but also having PC style games.
And of course for anyone remotely involved in the computer scene, it was a Godsend simply for the fact the games would load up first time. When it came to the spectrum you basically had to resort to Voodoo rituals to get it to load

I had never even heard of the CD32 until recent years, but I have no doubt that I'd like it. In the late 80's, the home computer war was between the Atari ST and Commodore Amiga. I opted for the Atari, but the Amiga was clearly much better, especially in the graphics department. I suspect I missed out on some great games I could enjoy if I picked up a CD32. But I'd need to purchase all the games from overseas, and I don't think most Americans really want to read about the CD32.

Actually, Critic, I love reading about esoteric machines like the CD32, the APF, the sinclair SPECTRUM... I'll likely never SEE these machines which makes me want to see it online even more!

The CD32 system does have allot of great titles, especially since it can play most of the CDTV and Amiga games - the libray is huge. VGC is right though - most of the games you have to get from Britain - but the price, including the shipping, for the games are not outragious. A good console (and the 1st 32 bit system released), but I doubt the general audience of the VGC site would peruse the reviews as much. More of a novelty if you get the chance.
