Super Paper Mario or Oblivion?

I'm not asking which is better, but rather which game should I buy.  I have never played a Paper Mario game and I tried Oblivion for a whopping 3 mins.  Needless to say I have no idea which game to make as my next purchase.

Here is what I'm leaning towards...Oblivion.

I already have some games that I'm playing on the Wii and making time to play one more might put me over the edge.  Oblivion seems like it will satisfy for a much longer period of time.  Oblivion will satisfy my inner graphics whore.  It also will quench my fantasy RPG thirst that I've got goin on.

Then again, Paper Mario looks FANTASTIC.  You guys have been raving about it on here and I'm drooling with anticipation to try it out.  It seems like the perfect marriage of 2D and 3D.  Its almost like a platformer and it seems to have some nice RPG elements.  I'm not so keen on the endless amount of text though.  Plus I recently played through Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga on the DS...I might be all Mario'ed out for a while.  To be honest I really don't know what to get.

Anywho, what do you guys think I should get?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(Also lets just keep this civil...no Wii vs PS3 vs 360 arguements...just some simple recommendations...thanks!)

Tough choice, I'd say get both eventually but if I had to pick one, I think Oblivion wins if for nothing more than you'll never really run out of things to do in it and you will in Super Paper Mario.

I am 65 hours into Oblivion and have only spent about 2 hours on the main quest.  As far as I am concerned it is one of the most finely crafted RPG experiences there have ever been.  I was not really into Morrrowind but Oblivion sucked me in.  My favourite thing is to go wandering in the wilderness, try and chase the deer, watching the sunset, listening to the amazing music and hunting for ingrediants - I'm a master of alchemy and have become exceedingly rich as a result.  I mean what I just described is pointless right but it's still so much fun.  The game has an infinite number of approaches to take and offers very different experiences to different players based on their personal preference for playing style.

I haven't played Paper Mario but from someone that's sunk 110+ hours into Oblivion last spring, I'd go with Oblivion.  Which system were you going to pick it up for?

In a perfect world I would get it for the PC.  The game was meant for the PC and it really shines on a suped up PC gaming rig.  Sadly I would need to sink about $500 into my PC to get it up to the level where I could have every graphics detail set to MAX.

If I do get Oblivion I think I will get the PS3 version.  The graphics are closer to the PC version (I can only go by the reviews that state this...I played the 360 version and its no slouch) and the technical performance is supposed to be better.

Also the PS3 game has the Knights of Nine so that is a decent plus I guess.  I'm not really worried about the downloadable content because there is plenty to do in the game I don't think I would ever get around to needed anything extra.

So to answer your question, I would get the PS3 version.

You can't lose either way. But fact is, Oblivion is such an incredible, unique experience that I have to give it the edge.

Still get Paper Mario, though.

Oblivion. You have a year's or more worth of content with that one. The combat system is a little odd and the third person view is floaty and lame, but you'll never run out of places to explore and new things to look at.

Super Paper Mario is OK, but I think it is overrated. LOTS of dialouge (really kiddie) and it's not hard at all... kinda boring. The ability to go to 3D for short periods of time is indeed awesome.

I'm a Nintendo guy and I'm telling you to go with Oblivion. Think about that, yo.

FUNK

Well not a single person said Super Paper Mario over Oblivion so I think thats what I'm going to get.  I will still end up getting both games, but for now I think I am going to dive into the huge world that Oblivion has to offer.

When I run into another dry spell of Wii titles like I did in Jan-Feb I will pick up Super Paper Mario.

Thanks for all the info guys.  I'll post some initial thoughts on Oblivion by the end of the week.

For some stupid reason, the box art for Berserk(2600) fascinated me as a toddler.

The box art for Double Dragon and Sonic The Hedgehog seem to come to my mind, as an adult.

Smart move because there's going to be a little bit of a dought in the summer for Wii. Then the heavy hitters are going to be coming out in the fall like Metroid 3, Mario and Manhunt 2. Also if you have any time you should get Shivering Isles. It's awsome. One of the best expantion packs I ever played.
