Disgusted at realistic shooters

Sorry to sidetrack the thread along with everyone else (so is it sidetracking?) but Funk, you just addressed my number one pet peeve.  I'm not saying this was the cause in this case, bu man if American and Canadian society get any more obbsessed with drugging themselves, we'll be buried under drugs.

As for the "guns create volence" and "bannng guns increases violence issues", well, they're pretty hard to get here in Canada, and there's not exactly a huge murder rate here.  Of course, you can also eat cheese curds on french fries here, hockey is the number one sport, and we eat more donuts per capita than any other country on earth, and I'd hardly make the claim that watching hockey is related to lower levels of violnce, or that donuts cut down on murders.

Hey, maybe it's the free health care.  I mean, why shoot anyone if they're just going to get to see some doctors and get fixed right up.

In the interest of not obfuscating some of the better points made, I should point out that a population 33 million or so versus 330 million in the U.S. is going to create different statistical irregularities and is certainly not a basis for judging the issue at hand.

Cheese curds on fried? Sounds great!

One more, snakeboy, and we'll get right back...

I agree that guns alone are not the cause of attacks. You are always going to have "crazy" people (mentally unbalancedC)
going on rampages with knives, swords or just their own weight if they are big. You can cut someones throat with a piece of glass after all. True, a machine gun means MORE people are going to die, but when a person is out of control, they are out of control. I used to be a CNA, and while normally dealing with sick patients, a couple of times I worked with "mentally ill" patients too, and was given the warnings. Oh, I too have been offered Anti Depressants in my life and PRozac et al never made me anything but sick. I believe in changing the ENVIORNMENT to elevate mood, not overmedicating oneself.
Okay. Anyone play Atari today?

And, now, on to video games.  I've been playing the NES a lot lately.  Man, I love that machine.

Just a note to say I DID NOT intend for that icon on my post (sticking its tounge out) to show up. I would not make fun of this serious issue. I was trying to put a colon-PC to indicate the POITICALY CORRECT term.

And now for something completely different.

Galaga Arrangement on Namco Collection rocks!
Why is the audio so low though?

He also hates the SNES and the entire 3D generation that included the PS1, Saturn, and N64.  This might be one of those situations where meds are in order.

I don't "hate" the SNES exactly.  It's that I feel it is so inferior to the Genesis as to be insulting.  The 3D generation thing you have almost completely correct.  I hate the N64 and PS1 entirely, and about 90% of what was readily available around here on the Saturn.  Two good Zelda games, Pandamonium, and a handfull of good saturn fighters don't make up for the MTVising of gaming, muddy graphics, and an entire industry content with poor gameplay because "like, it's 3D and stuff".

I think meds are in order for anyone who has deluded themself into liking that generation.  Sorry, but, plain and simple,  it stinks.

Well don't be sorry for being dead wrong.  It's for the rest of us to pity you.  The first 3D generation was a terrific period, one that renewed my waning interest in video games at the time.  I honestly hated the idea of 3D gaming when that generation started, but the quality of the games really sold me on the idea.

Like any generation, I pick my favorites and could care less about the rest.  Usually, my favorites are more than enough to keep me occupied.  But over time, I find myself rediscovering greats from that time, so it's not just that that particular generation didn't deliver less favorites to keep me going, but that I still find games of interest to this day.  It was a whole new territory, and so some misses were bound to occur, but it's the many hits that make that generation well worth my time and my love.

I, for one, am not put off by the first-person shooters.  Hell, if they're taken seriously enough, maybe they'll impress upon kids the seriousness and reality of warfare and combat.  But I do agree that they should not be played by kids--desensitization is a real issue.  Am I blaming the games for the psychos out there?  No, not really.  People do horrible things with or without having video games around.  There weren't shooters in the late '80s like we have now, but that didn't stop a group of goth kids from murdering the Lillelid family in the early '90s down in Kentucky*.  Shooting a family--including a two- and a five-year-old and laughing while they did it?  No, some people are just plain evil, game violence not required.

*Sorry, I just saw a rerun of City Confidential.
