Flying Under the Radar

Postby JustLikeHeaven1 » April 20th, 2007, 10:12 am

I would like to take the time to highlight a few games that seem to be flying under most gamer's radar.  These games aren't going to be AAA games, but they are the type of games that can find cult status or just become moderately successful.  I'm going to start off with the three next gen systems.

Xbox 360

Overlord

If you have seen a trailer for this game it can best be described as a mixture of Pikmin and Dungeon Keeper.  Needless to say I love it! You are an evil overlord who commands an army of crazy imps to do your evil bidding.  Seriously do I need to go on anymore?  The game doesn't take itself to serious and it looks like it could be tons of fun.  My only concern is that the controls might not live up to the potential of the game.  Check out the link...be sure to check out some of the tounge in check trailers.

Monster Madness: Battle for Suburbia

I have been tracking this game for a long time and its release is almost upon us.  This game seems like a mix of Gauntlet and Zombies Ate My Neighbors.  A demo has been released over live and it is getting some tepid responses.  The developer has stated that the demo is based on a fairly early build of the game.  I'll keep my fingers crossed on this one.

PS3

Calling All Cars

The guy that brought you Twisted Metal and God of War (David Jaffe) is moving into the realm of arcade action/pick up n play games.  The game seems to be Twisted Metal with a cartoony cops n robbers feel.  For less than $10 it should be a downloadable game that every PS3 owner buys.  This one has sleeper potential written all over it.

Heavenly Sword

Here is a game that should be getting hyped to death and I still haven't heard sqaut about it.  Its being described as God of War with a smoking hot red headed chick (where do I sign up?) and it's looking real nice.  Hopefully this game turns out good and isn't overshadowed by the release of Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

Wii

Heatseeker

Um...there hasn't been an awesome arcade flying game in quite a long time (Ace Combat is still a tad to simulator like for me) and this game looks to be rock solid.  It is been described as Burnout with wings and that sounds like a good time to me.  A jet game that focuses on blowing sh** up sounds like a winning forumla to me.

Space Station Tycoon

This is full fledge title based on the xbox live downloadable game Outpost Kaloki X.  Unlike most tycoon games this one seems to have a nice sense of humour and it takes place in space (nice!).  Playing with the wiimote might work really well because it simulates a mouse cursor really well.  If this game is done right it could be one of those games that sucks days out of your life and you don't even realize it.

So thats it for today...Many of you may not have heard about these games and I implore you to at list hit the links and check them out.  Some of them may turn out to be stinkers, but you never know.

Hmm.. Heavnly Sword, is that being developed by the same team that did God of War? Some of the art does look pretty similar. Hopefully it is them because I really don't want them to get buried in their original franchise. They've got alot of talent and hopefully after this game they'd be able to make something totally different.

Heavenly Sword is being developed by a company called Ninja Theory.  I'm pretty sure that God of War is made by someone else.  You are right though...Heavenly Sword looks like it is trying to capitalize on the success of GOW.

I'm with you on Overlord.  It looks like it's got a ton of cheeky British humor to it.  Now, if only someone else could make a sequel to Crimson Skies we'd be all good.

and AC/DC on GH...just sayin'
