360 Backwards Compatibility Update

Outside of Soul Caliber 2, nothing I really care much about.  And even that game I also have (and prefer) on the Gamecube.

I really wish they'd ramp this up a bit.

I can't believe they're still doing this at all.  They aren't actually gaining in anything here, other than having some hardcore fans a little, tiny bit less mad.  I actually don't know why they're bothering, and think that the fact that they are is somewhat, for lack of a better word, kind of them.

Sorry, but I have to call bull#$%^ on that.  They are doing it because backwards compatibility is important to a lot of consumers.  It is important enough that the 360 hasn't greatly benefitted from a crowd they won over on their previous 4-year-run of a console.  Some of my reasoning is anecdotal.  Some of it is not.  Not only do I know a few big XBOX fans who haven't purchased a 360 because it isn't BC enough for them (and thus doesn't constitute their previous investment for games), but as Microsoft found out when they made comments that "nobody really cares about it", it is in fact something that consumers care enough about to barrage their offices with emails and complaints.

There's nothing "kind" about backwards compatiblity.  It's become, for lack of a better word, an industry standard per se.  It was once my biggest complaint against Nintendo's various consoles.  Now it is my biggest complaint against Microsoft's 360.  They aren't doing it because they are "kind".  Microsoft has never been kind to anyone... they operate on the assumption that what they do either buys them market share or profits.  They are doing it because they realize, now, that it means something to their bottom-line.

360 Backwards Compatibility Update

I see 5 games on there that I had when I owned an Xbox. I had no idea that some of those major titles didn't work on the 360.

Yay on Jet Set Radio Future and Panzer Dragoon Orta, but nay on Reservior Dogs and Avatar.  Seriously, of all the Xbox 1 games out there, I don't think most 360 owners want to play the previous two over other great titles that still aren't on the list, like both Project Gothams, Ralisport Challenge 2, DOA Volleyball, and Chronicles of Riddick.

Oh, and by the way, Soul Calibur 2 was on the last BC update list, they just fixed some of the problems (note I said "some" since the rumble feature still doesn't work).

And if I can pile on a bit more, the JSRF addition is a somewhat hollow victory, since on 360, it suffers from massive slowdown that was absent on Xbox, especially with lots of objects on the screen (I almost got a headache playing 99th Street).  Also, serious problems for many other games (like Shenmue 2) still haven't been fixed or even acknowledged by Microsoft.

I would say give it time, but time is hit or miss with them.  For the good, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth had MAJOR issues on the 360.  They were so bad, that I felt it was fraud to even put it on the BC list.  However, they fixed that two updates ago.  They also fixed some of the horrible issues two updates ago with KOTOR (the fix was noticeable in this case, even though it was listed with an update available for that release).  However, the last fix (before the most recent one) actually not only reintroduced the problems with KOTOR originally in the 360, but it in fact made them much worse.

I realize it's a technical challenge for them.  But if the 360 really is so much more powerful than the original XBOX, it shouldn't seem as impossible as it does given the actual output.

Mozart virtually all 360 owners were also XBox owners.  You seem to come across as something of a troll because that list is full of amazing titles.  Jet Set radio Future and PDO in particular.  Awesome news.  Just need Outrun 2006 now .

Where is your statistic that shows that virtually all 360 owners were XBOX owners?  Doesn't this fly in the face of the idea that the 360 has latched onto the PS2 crowd, giving them reason to buy the 360 instead of the PS3.  And if all 360 owners were XBOX owners, is that the same as saying that all XBOX owners are 360 owners?  You come across as something of a fanboy in making this kind of case for my very meager criticism, making it seem as if you are unwilling to accept any criticism of the 360 due to some kind of desperation that it win this console generation above all else.

That title list is pretty bare, not amazing.  It covers a certain subset of gamers, and I am not of that subset.  If pointing out the very real problem of missing BC in the 360 puts me into the category of "troll", then so be it.  Put my name on the list of trolls, and I'll put yours in the list of fanbots.
