While I agree with you that its a must have game...its only a must have game for certain people. For instance I think the Critic would HATE this game. Its can be pretty slow, the lulls in action can be frequent, there is alot of running around to do and the NPC can talk your ear off. If you are looking for instant gratification this game doesn't have it. It doesn't take long to swallowed by the twisted tale that the game is weaving, but I feel like alot of people will give up before then.
You really have to be a patient gamer to like Oblivion. Its a tremendous game and one that will reward everyone that tries it, but its certainly not for everybody. It has a steep learning curve and its not quite as user friendly to people that hate RPGs.

I think the emptiness of the world adds to the realism and makes it scarier to me. Also, when you level up the enemies get more ferocious and numerous.
I played Final Fantasy XI for a couple months. My lead singer and his girlfriend are absolutely addicted to it (I just got him a job and he quit after 3 weeks b/c it was taking time away from the game). It is indeed awesome. If I had no job/ wife/ kid/ band/ asperations/ I would play it every day. I liked soloing/ exploring and raising chocobos. There is so much to do in that game it is sick. Tons of things to do at the cap level (I never got close) and you can customise your job. Pretty sweet. But not for me.
