Wii First Impressions

In the case of Shawn's lies vs. the truth, I present exhibit A.
unlike Sony or Microsoft, Nintendo really "gets" video games'?

This has to be the dumbest thing I think I have ever seen you write? Weren't you just praising God of War 2? Ya know, that terrible game from Sony? I swear you are becoming more of a fanboy the older you get. Ok, so the Wii has a bunch of mini games for two players. I'll take Gears, Rainbow Six or even Battlefield 2 any day over the Wii anyday. Look, I am glad you are enjoying your Holy Grail but let's not get too carried away. I'll get back to playing the 360 although Microsoft doesn't "get" video games. Don't bother with the reviews; we all know that only A+++++ titles grace the "Holy Grail" of gaming.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I submit that Shawn's A) "hot wife" B) "Great job", and C) "extra money from investments" are all fabrications.   I charge, based on exhibit A, that Shawn cannot have these thingsbecause he is, in fact, 12 years old.  Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, ask yourselves if the person who wrote exhibit A sows the maturity, or indeed the grammatical skills, belonging to an adult.

Further I submit exhibit B, my disagreement with the critic's statement.
Critic, I think you underestimate Microsoft's understanding of the market.  Their Live Arcade is set up to make it easy to get good, fun, easy to play games.  On top of this, games like Viva Pinata show that they "get" that there is much more to the videogame market than gangs and guns.  Finally, I think that they're efforts with Live, showing how important online gaming is to many, many players, showed an understanding with their very first console, and continues to show that understanding, that the other companies seem completely without.
Ladies and gentlemen, that is th work of a 26 year old government employee.  I ask you, does Exhibit A put you in the mind of a 20+ year old tax payer as well?

I rest my case.

I agree completely with Paul's comments. To say that Nintendo "gets" video games is hardly controversial. It's easy to see why the Critic likes the pick up and play aspect of the Wii, as he still adores the Atari 2600. To me, many of the early Wii efforts remind me of what the better Atari games would have been if the graphics and controls had advanced (but kept the same gameplay philosophy).

In any event, there is not need to be rude and accuse someone of being stupid. There have been some pretty heated debates on some hot button topics recently, yet I don't recall the people involved ever being so harsh with one another.

Huh, I think the Wii is the best looking of the 3 next gen consoles. It's simple but elegant, especially once you put it in the stand. I do agree that plugging in the Gamecube controllers and memory cards does make it look worse though.
By the way, I really like the look of the Wii, and I love the blue light coming out of the DVD slot.  By the way, when that light turns on, it's telling you that something is available: it can be an update, someone sent you their Mii, a new channel to download, or a message sent to you from someone else.
m0zart, thanks for the tip, I've been wondering why that darn light has been flashing for awhile now.  I should probably turn it on and see what new goodies are available.  Do you know if it's every time they release new VC games or other system like updates?

Thanks

Hey Critic,
Congratulations on finding a Wii.  I was fortunate to get one the day it came out, but Fry's made me buy the bundle with 5 other games (of which only one I really wanted).  Plus, I had to buy Zelda because it was not part of the bundle.
So, I've had the Wii for about 6 months, and you know what game I play the most...Wii Sports!  That's right, the pack-in game.  This game is so much fun, especially multi-player.  I could play bowling and tennis anytime!  I know you're checking it out with all of your friends and family, but don't over look the "Training" games.  These games have great replay value since you'll always try beat your top score or get a better medal.  here's one to shoot for.  Play the first Tennis training game (returning balls).  My personal record on that is 92!  No joke.  I have yet to hear of anyone getting a better score than that.  Let me know if you do.

Well he would have if he were joking.  I don't think he was, but hey Shawn -- here's your chance to save face.  Come in and pretend it was a joke -- or that someone once again stole your name.

Wii Sports is also my early favorite.  Whether playing solo or against friends, it seems to have unlimited replay value.  Which leads me to a question I'd like to pose to the Wii owners out there: Does Wii Sports remain fun over time, or does it fade as the novelty wears off?

"Unlike Sony and Microsoft, who believe bigger is better, Nintendo really "gets" video games."

With completely over the top and false statements like that way to lose a reader.
