Wii First Impressions

At first I played the hell out of Wii Sports. Then as I got more titles I stopped playing it. Then about a month ago I decided to play a game of bowling and my brother was watching me...he joined in. Ever since then Wii Sports has been played once a day, by somebody in my house. It really has timeless pick up and play gameplay that never gets old. The training modes are fun diversions as well. The real meat and potatoes is multiplayer competition. I've had some furious matches of tennis, baseball and bowling.

So to answer your question, yea Wii Sports continues to kick ass long after you purchase the Wii. Its a great pack in game and a great game overall. Its shallow as hell, but it simple controls invites newcomers to play and people love to try it. Before long they want to keep playing and you can't resist beating them over and over again. I'm sure it will fade after a while, but all it takes is a few games of bowling with friends and I'm addicted all over again. I wish every console came packed with a game that had the longevity of Wii Sports.

I would agree with JLH. Wii Sports has an almost magical ability to be fun every time, all the time. Oh sure, you'll get tired of it in spurts and play other stuff. But, like any true classic like Pac Man, Galaga, Contra, Tetris, etc., it has a simple yet fun gameplay that just doesn't get old.

Videogames, due to technical limitations, had to try to go for this gold standard of "simplisitic, yet unlimited replay value" every time in the early going. Most failed, but the few that succeeded have become classics.

Now, in the modern age, we have different standards and experiences. Some games aim to give you 15-20 hours of fast, furious gameplay and excitement, and drop you on the floor. Others give you a sandbox to play in.

Its nice that Nintendo has remembered that first standard, though, and delivered a pack in title that absolutely nails it.

Wii Sports has not gotten old for me yet. It's definitely one of those easy to learn, hard to master games. You'll think you're great at Tennis when you finally make it to pro status...then the computer starts kicking your butt. You'll have to get even better to be able to reach 2000 points (like me!) Have fun with your Wii, and I can't wait to read some of the reviews.

Yeah, you're right. A guy who runs a site called The Video Game Critic really should keep his opinions about video games to himself.

And that statement you claim to be so "over the top" has in fact been echoed countless times by critics and gamers alike. If anything, it's a platitude.

It's only been five months, so take this as you will. I began playing Wii Sports when I first got the console, and I still play Wii Tennis several times a week.

i havent played much wii sports by myself, but whenever i have company its about the only game we play.

I was already enjoying Wii Tennis before I discovered the added bonus of being able to twist the remote as you swing and put top and bottom spin on the ball. If you return a serve near the sideline with a sharp bottom-spin swing, it can be almost unreturnable to anyone but a seasoned pro.

I do love Wii Sports, and it is a PERFECT ice breaker when we have boring people at our house, but my favorite game on the system, by a long shot, is Super Paper Mario. At this point I hope the game never ends. It's that good.

For solo play.... no. But you will probably put it in from time to time. Those training games on the Wii Sports is my favorite! And the only reason why I don't play Wii Sports for solo play is because I tend to play it so much in multiplayer (and I have other Wii games I need to get through for my solo play).

But this game NEVER gets old in multiplayer. This is the best party game I have ever seen. And the replay value is absurdly good.

While I am not the Video Game Critic, but if I were, I would give Wii Sports a score of A+. What other game has caused a craziness for a game system like this? The ones I think of would be games like Tetris and Super Mario Brothers. I consider Wii Sports to be on that level.
