Is it just me, or does anybody else remember people trashing Combat back in the early 80's?  I guess since everyone had it and it was so simplistic, people thought it sucked.

Now of course it's revered as a classic, and people are banished from society for saying one bad word about it.

I like the game but it's funny how attitudes have changed.

Critic, COMBAT is a decent enough game with very clean sound and graphics (except when a Biplane TURNS-UGGGGGGHHHH! ) and memorable audio, but it had a major problem: only two people could play it ( as a loner with no freinds, I was glad to get Sears telegames which came with Target Fun and Pac-Man). Target fun had a simple but effective CPU opponent, as "pong" (video olympics) and ALL of the OTHER first nine carts I recall. (I'm not saying solo was always FUN, but the option was there).

I didn't get a COMBAT cart untill 1986 when I started collecting 2600 games. Why did so many early video games have to be 2 player only? Memory limitations or "board game" mentality; i.e. vid games were new so people thought "game" meant for two or more players? Or both? Anyway, Combat would be #1 on my list if it had a solo play option. Tank Pong was great.
