How prevelant are Xbox 360 / Wii problems?

Postby Will » May 1st, 2007, 1:55 pm

I've been reading around on different websites and it seems like many people had problems with their 360s.  I know early copies of systems often have problems that are fixed as time goes on.  Are 360s manufactured today (like the Elite) considered more reliable, or is it just the luck of the draw?
I haven't had any problems (but I've only had my Elite for a two days).  I couldn't get the console to turn on at first, but I reconnected the power supply to it and it did fine.
On the other hand, I have had my Wii crash 3 times, require a restart, and once a complete unplugging.
What are you guys' experiences?

I got a Wii at launch, and it hasn't frozen/crashed/etc a single time.

360 - older unit - locks up on Oblivion, mostly everything else runs fine.  Wii - locked up just a couple of times but way better than the 360.

I have had the 360 Premium addition for quite a while and haven't had any issues with it at all (regardless of game or the online mode).

I've had my Wii freeze a couple times and I needed to pull the plug to start it back up, but it wasn't anything that concerned me to much.

I had the Wii lock up a few times requiring unplugging, but it has not happened again since the last time I did a system update.  Not sure if that is the reason or not.

This has been a real concern in the next gen including the PS3 as well as annoying system updates - one of the main reasons I won't buy a next gen system other than not being too interested in them anyway and lack a hd tv, is the fact that games and systems require firmware updates. Were quite concerned when a new system freezes. Back in the cartridge based systems and the ps1 it would just be 'damm' it froze reset and that was it - never crossed my mind that there was a fatal flaw (and there weren't really) Not to mention it was much rarer.
