You guys are right. Nobody on this site has ever whined about a game they loved getting a low grade! Heck, there were people complaining that gamespot gave Zelda an 8.8 rather then a perfect 10+++ or A+++. They same thing went for Gears. I am not saying he isn't out of line it's just c'mon...who cares.

I totally get where your coming from, m0zart, in that some Japanese devs are, in fact, just showing a sort of humility that is more cultural than genuine.
And I do think its great to be outspoken, and hey, I recognize I'm Mr. Phlegmatic in real life, so a guy like Jaffe is just going to rub me the wrong way anyhow. I expect that he's pretty charismatic, and he could be fun to be around.
I just draw the line at, well, there was one particular statement (the one that is referenced by Brian Crecente of Kotaku) that is just unnecassary. But I think you recognize that (-:
I consider myself an artist, of the musical kind, and as such I've always really had a chip on my shoulder regarding the notion that great artists have to be bizarre in some fashion. That's not what you said, obviously (but this thread has reminded me of that beef), but if I have ego (which of course I do), it burns internally, because to put yourself out there at all with something subjective and say "this has value" takes ego, for sure.
I do recall what Inafune said, and of course I disagree. He's one of those guys that definitely fits in that "Japanese dude who is obviously pretty full of himself under the cultural facade." I would also put Itagaki-san in that boat as well. One would think Suda is as well, but the reports are that he's a pretty nice dude.
Oh, @ JLH: I think Shawn was referring to me, perhaps, on Heatseaker. I basically disregarded Mark Bozon's review of 5.5 as sort of rubbish. But that being the same thing at all to the developer of the game itself ranting with a bunch of potty mouthed tirades is, of course, incorrect.
My final statement would be this: Jaffe should read Masters of Doom (mostly because it's a great read, but...), and take a good hard look at what happened to poor John Romero. He got in over his head when he was on top of the world, and hasn't really recovered.

For those interested...check out the link below for an interview with David Jaffe. You really get a chance to see how *unique* he is. He has opinions on just about everything and its a very interesting watch. There are 5 parts to the interview. I recommend watching the first one at the very least. He even talks about how people expect him to act like "humble" japanese developers.

The guy's an ass, no doubt about it, and I have no problem with and frequently use it myself, but come on. If you're gonna use it, use it correctly for God's sake. That said, I actually liked the blog. There's just something cool about the guy. (He made the damn awesome God of War and the superior God of War 2. How the hell can you NOT like a dude like like that?)

Well, I don't like his alternative spelling (datz not kool wid me, yo), but I don't see immaturity or arrogance here. He's just a guy living in Southern California, maintaining a weblog, doing what he enjoys and enjoying what he does. :shrug: Sure, he strikes me as someone in his 20s or early 30s, but I just don't see anything objectionable about the guy from what he's written.
