Video Game Mania 7 Scandal!

Video Game Manias have always been pretty rough and competitive, but this year there's a brand new scandal. It's now coming to light that a certain duo who won the Beach Spikers Volleyball (GC) competition were secretly switching controllers when no one was looking! Apparently one of those players could serve the ball at 99% strength each time, and the other was struggling. So they had the same guy serve every time, and they smoked the competition.
Now there's a firestorm of controversy, but the question is, did they cheat? Technically, there is no specific VGM rule stating that this practice was prohibited. However, the guys who lost don't agree.
Neither one of the fellons in question won a trophy, by the way. What's your take?
You'll read all the salacious, over-dramatic details in the upcoming VGM7 home page.

Looks like they found a hole in your rules, Critic. Unless it is obviously subversive (like slipping a date rape drug to your competition before hand or something), you can't really fault someone for doing something you didn't say they can't do! (-:
Looks like the Video Game Mania Competition Commitee will have to meet in the off season and tighten things up a bit!

I have to agree - while it might not have been the most sportsman-like thing to do, it doesn't sound like they cheated outright. In other sports games you've had there hasn't been any rule about people sticking to their assigned roles throughout the entire match (i.e., being a forward in basketball or a striker in soccer). I'd say they got through by a technicality!

Well I'm sure MLB rules don't state specifically that you can't get a friend of a friend to phone the opposing team's pitcher every half hour the night before the game to screw him up, but it'd certainly get you fined if you tried it and got caught. Not specifically saying something is wrong doesn't make it okay.
If these players hid the fact that they were switching controllers durng the game, it can be assumed they were fully aware they were being unsportsmanlike and should, then, be considered cheats.

I would watch out for human growth hormone, Critic. You can't really test for it.
Have any of the competitors gotten enlarged heads since VGM 6? Any sudden leaps in Galaxian high scores?

It's cheating, if not...it's a really cheesy thing to do.

I was just wondering how sauced up everyone was at VGM 7 to not notice two guys trading controlers for a whole game

I competed in the finals of the Volleyball Match and lost like a "deaf, dumb, blind kid." I don't so much mind it, as I made it to the finals, but my partner missed the final 8 tournament by 1 point. He's probably blowing a gasket right now...have we all lost our sportsmanship in the ever elusive hunt for the BIG trophy? Has the quest for fame, fortune and endless number of hot female groupies gone to our heads? What is going on?!?
