Do you "just because"?

Does anyone buy games they will likely never play (any time soon at least) for the sole purpose that they were "big titles" in their day? For example, I loved Dark Forces for PC when it came out way back when, so when I say the PS1 version at a pawn shop I bought it "just because". Same reasons I own a 32x copy of Doom, the Saturn version of Duke Nukem 3d, Alien Trilogy, Hexen and Quake.

Really these games get repetitive, but for ME, and my obsession in the mid '90s with FPS games its nice to own them just to see how the genre developed. (not to mention these old DOS games won't work on our PC's forever)

I mean some games are considered must have titles for specific consoles, if you own a Genesis chances are you own Sonic 2, Playstation - Crash, etc..

One I'm currently hunting down is The Secret of Monkey Island for Sega CD, I LOVED the Monkey Island games, and ANY console versions are going to be in my collection regardless of whether or not the PC version is better, "just because".

What are your thoughts? Do you guys have soft spots for certain genres or games?

You, I have been buying back a lot of stuff that dissappeared down the pawn shop in the past, even though I am unlikely to play the games much. It is just nice to have them. Similarly, I played PC games quite a lot back in the mid nineties, but for a variety of reasons don't anymore, but a lot of games from that era were converted to playstation (often poorly I'm afraid) so I have been buying those up lately too. I also sometimes buy Japanese Saturn games where the language barrier may be too much, simply because I really love the Japanese Saturn range.

Also, it is a bit diferent, but I also have a habit of buying up current generation games faster than I can play them. This is a particular problem with PS2. So I have bought quite a lot of PS2 games I haven't played properly yet, although that isn't quite the same because they will definitely b played fully in the furure.

Absolutely. Bought Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, Stanley Cup (snes) and ICO for the same reasons.

I'm trying to find the old Mortal Kombat 4 for Playstation, Nintendo 64 and PC. Yes, I want all 3 of them and I can compare them all. (if you're just wondering, I'm a Mortal Kombat diehard since I was born as a baby)

I meant that I've been playing Mortal Kombat since a little baby. I could whoop back then, now I'm "retired" from the 2D games.

I buy ANY old 80's games, whether I have the machine to run them or not. I have a few Odyssey2 games in the hope that someday I'll get an O2. I picked up 7 vic-20 games 5 years ago, and three years later I found a Vic-20, so it works sometimes! 80's stuff is just nice to have anyway.

Stop arguing about babies. That's so infantile!

I was born as a spawn of Hell.

I'd never consider buying a game if I didn't plan on playing it. Seems like a huge waste of money.

I buy Atari 7800 and O2 games just to complete my collections.  So, although not for the reason you stated, I've bought a lot of games "just because"
