Best / Most Memorable Sound Samples

Postby wur1 » May 18th, 2007, 12:11 pm

"Blades.... of.... Steel!" -- Probably the first sound sample I've heard in a game.  I remember when I was 8, I kept reseting the NES just to hear the sample over and over.  I thought it was amazing to hear a video game talk.

"Old mucous!" -- I remember this was our interpretation of what Ryu was saying when he threw a fireball.  (We, being 11-year olds, joked it was actually a glob of snot he was throwing)

Even though I'm a newcomer to Gradius, we can't forget, "You are the last hope." (said in a not very passionate tone) or "Destroy the core!"

The 1UP sound from Super Mario Bros.

The sound in Sonic when you pick up Rings

"Die" from Kid Chameleon when you died.  It was so harsh and it always stood out to me.

I also always loved the sound samples from Warcraft II.  It was great fun to constanly click the mouse cursor on different units to see how they would recact.  If you kept clicking on the same unit it would eventually yell at you.

[QUOTE=The Video Game Critic]When Ryu performs a dragon punch in Street Fighter 2, he yells what sounds like "for all you kids!!"  To this day, I will taunt my opponents by yelling that whenever I get that move off.

Any Street Fighter fan worth his salt knows this is "Shoryuken"!

And how could you mongrels forget "Double Dribble"? (Or as the game says it: "Mubba Mrubba")

That was Skate or Die 2, and I believe it was, "Skate or die, d-d-die-die-die-die-die!"

First game I ever saw with singing/lyrics.
