I'm really into Super Breakout right now which is really just ONE screen, pong with lines, and I'd call it an A+ game! By the way, the Japanese & European version of Donkey Kong/ DK Junior had all 4 boards in cycle, every level, it wasn't just the home games!
Worst reviews ever were some Digital Press reviews by some "ken" guy (Space Dungeon was one)-that were just reprinted word for word from the old Electronic Fun! magazine of the 80's! Plagarism!

I find that interesting... if that were the case, any alleged fun of old games must be due to predisposed bias or nostalgia.

Yeah, I've read claims like that before and it makes no sense. We didn't like games during those generations because we all wanted to be proactively nostalgic. I didn't hop around for hours in Q-Bert when I was a kid thinking "man I am being so retro here today in the past. Man, I know in the year 2007 this will just seem so quaint that I just have to love it now. I mean, this is such a long time ago by the time the future gets here. Boy I can't wait to be 26 so I can look back on this".

Well, I am from the 80s, just not the early 80s, when Donkey Kong was popular. My first meeting with the character was Donkey Kong '94 for the Gameboy, still one of the greatest titles for the system.
My first game was Outrun, which is still really nostalgic for me, but I just never let "outdated" graphics get in the way of entertainment value. If it's fun, it's fun, and Donkey Kong certainly delivers. (wasn't this a general mindset at the time, really? I mean, we played our console games even though arcade games had largely superior graphics, didn't we?)

I guess people divide games into different eras, for me I call anything pre-Pong prehistoric or B.P.; Golen age lasted from Pong units up to the Nes; Silver age Nes-PS one; Bronze age PSone/ saturn/N64 up to The Xbox/PS2/GC and up which I call mordern era.
Sorry to get off track. I still think Dave needs to go back and re- review 7800 Pole Position2. It's hands down the best 7800 racer, c'mon, an F!? C maybe but not F!

Let's say I want a game that's really easy to learn and totally impossible to master, that I can play a full game of in 5-20 minutes, that never, ever, ever has a camera angle problem, and that gives me a really robust scoring system. Now, how would God of War, Halo, or Metroid Prime measure up there? Meanwhile, if I want a deep story, expansive 3d worlds, and varied environments, weapons, and objectives, how well does Galaga measure up? They're different sets of standards, but neither is better.

Atarifever, that's beautiful. Very succinct and completely accurate.
Anayo: As someone who owns two of them, my vote goes to Geneses.
I read this thing on Wikipedia once that suggested that retrogamers claiming 8-bit and 16-bit games to be the golden age of gaming was due to wanton "romanticism."
Yep, some people are friggin' idiots. Similar to your story, I'd never even heard of Bosconian until I bought the Namco Museum disc. Guess what? I absolutely love it, it's one of my favorite games.
Oh, but to return to the original topic... hmm... um... well, I can't say I have a submission for the worst game review, but my buddy pointed out one of the worst movie reviews I've read. Walter Chaw is just a pompous fool and I suspect he's actually Quentin Tarantino writing under a pseudonym.

Seriously though, in the vein of the OP, there was a review on 1up.com that was actually taken down by the editors themselves because it was supposedly clear that the author was predisposed to hate the genre of game that he was reviewing. It was for Neverwinter Nights for the PC. I didn't get a chance to see the review before it was taken down. It was given a 5/10 and the author apparently ridiculed Dungeons and Dragons as poor game design.

I thought all of these games were great titles that deserved A- the worst. I thought Ninja Gaiden was the most misrepresented. Best platform game I ever played. Many people will disagree with me but I don't care. This is the way I feel.

Wow, I missed that before. I think the grade is wrong too. The game is an easy A for me, maybe an A+. I can't personally make an argument that puts it below that. Still, a B instead of an A isn't really one of the worst ratings of all time or anything. It isn't even the worst review on this site (That's Pole Position 2
), although even Dave's worst reviews look like poetry compared to Gamespot's best ones.
