Just curious, how do you feel about the SP "reunion?" Only Billy and Jimmy are returning with two hired guns. I'll be honest, I was very skeptical until I heard the entire leak of "Tarantula," their first single! OMFG, this song blew me away! It reminds me, structure-wise, of their Siamese era! I can't wait for this album, myself, but I was curious to see what you thought about it.

If you want to hear the entire song just go to Youtube and type in new Smashing Pumpkins. They have the entire song up...it's called Tarantula. I urge anybody who has any sort of interest in past or present SP to seek it out and give it a listen.
Wasn't Siamese Dream recorded almost entirely by Billy and Jimmy? That's probably why it sounds similar. But yeah, the new song is great. I can't wait for the album

I'm only skeptical because "Zwan" was God-awfull, and "FutureEmbrace" had only 2 good songs.
Of course I'll buy this album, but I have zero expectations.
From what I've read over the years, Corgan did everything but drums on every album except "Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness".

Only if you mean wrote. Billy Corgan basically wrote all the music, but the other musicians did play it. He really was the entire band; any other members are basically just placeholders.

Well, I picked up the album yesterday. Personally, I think it's AWESOME!! Granted, it's not going to change the face of music. It's not revolutionary nor is it evolutionary but it reminds you of what Billy is capable of when he gets inspired to write something great. The only song I could do without is Starz, because of it's cheesy chorus("We are starz, we are...we are starz, we are!!). I'm loving it, though!

Sucks.
The Smashing Pumpkins without James and D'arcy is like a Beatles reunion with only Paul and Ringo.

But without the songwriting of George and John, the Beatles would not be the same. Billy was/is the songwriter and brains behind everything that the Smashing Pumpkins have put out. That being said I don't think it matters what the name of the band is; it's always going to be the Billy Corgan show. He's already done Zwan with Chamberlain, plus his solo album. He could have called both of them reunion albums if he had wanted to.Return to “Video Games General”
