PS3 looking good...

Postby JustLikeHeaven1 » May 19th, 2007, 4:43 pm

Right now there is a pretty substantial gaming drought for all three systems...problem is that Sony can't really afford a drought.  However there are a slew of top notch looking games that are gracing the system by years end...

Everyone is so quick to spell out the impending doom of Sony that they forgot that alot of games are still going to be released.  Right now,as a PS3 owner, I'm not overly happy, but I haven't been dissapointed in the games I bought.  That being said, the upcoming 07 lineup has me very excited.

Here are the games that have AAA potential written all over them

Uncharted:  Drakes Fortune
SOCOM
Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
LittleBigPlanet
Folklore
Warhawk
Lair
Heavenly Sword

Here are a few that look to be standout titles...not AAA stuff
Pain
The Eye of Judgement
SingStar

Finally you have the impending release of Playstation Home which looks like it will make a big splash with gamers.  Not too mention that almost every major 3rd party game on the 360 is also coming the PS3 (Assassin's Creed, Devil May Cry 4, GTAIV,etc...).  The library is going to expand at a rapid pace towards the end of the year.  It should be a good time for PS3 owners as well as those gamers on the fence.

I think LittleBigPlanet and Heavenly Sword are probably the most important games on that list. They really need those games to succeed.

I hate to say it, but your message just made me feel even worse about my PS3 purchase!  I was thinking their library would be half-way decent by this summer, but now we're pushing it out to the end of the year?!

Are you really stoked about another SOCOM or Ratchet and Clank game??  Isn't Warcraft supposed to be exclusively on-line, and only multiplayer?  Lair looks good, but they keep pushing it back.  Heavenly Sword looks like God of War with a girl instead.

As for the titles that also come out for the 360, I think I'd take the 360 versions because it's got a better controller.  The only action my PS3 has been getting is me wiping the dust off of it every few weeks!  Sorry, but I'm just being honest.

Critic, I noticed you never reviewed Ratchet and clank 2, Going Commando.   Have you played it?  If not play it.   It improves on the first in every single and is one of the greatest sequals ever.  The Ratcher and Clank series is a series that adds huge improvements with each version

Ratcher and clank 2:Going Commando   RPG style Upgrading, Amazing weapons that are upgradeable,  and a second difficulty with a awesome new point multiplier. The ability to strafe.  A huge improvement over the 1st in every way.

Ratcher and Clank 3: Up your arsenal:  A great new online mode with several options, vehicles and objective based missions. Great new 2d side scrolling levels.

Ratchet 4(can't remember the subtitle) - Ok this one was disappointing.  But for people who want a pure shooter with no platforming, its not so bad.

So yeah, looking at the R & C record, I can say I am definitely looking foward to the next one.

Yeah am I'm looking foward to Uncharted which is made by naughty dog.  MGS4 should be nothing short of amazing.    So it looks like the PS3 could get some awesome games, but you are right, it is taking too long.

I appreciate your honesty Critic.  Right now my PS3 gets about as much play time as the 360 and the Wii...which is not a hell of alot right now.  I'm gonna go out and get MLB 07: The Show for the PS3 today...because I need a new baseball game and I'll be damned if I play the game you reviewed for the 360 this year (MLB 2K7 I think).

I don't really care if I have to wait until Fall for some good games.  Come Summer my game playing becomes almost non-exsistent anyways (rather be at the beach).

Personally I'm just as excited about SOCOM and Ratchet as I am for the next installments of Halo, Mario or Metroid.  Plus there are over 5 brand new IPs on that list.  Thats impressive to me (I've probably forgotten some too).  I love my 360 and Wii, but most of the games I own for both of those systems are extensions of already exsisting franchises.  I'm not gonna knock Sony for doing the same thing as its competition.

I'm assuming you meant WarHawk in your post not Warcraft.  The impressions have been very favorable and if it stays that way I will buy it.  Online only games are very competitive and I'm open to trying new things.  I think it looks exciting from what I've seen.

Personally I will never get a 360 3rd party game instead of a PS3 version for two reasons...I hate the 360 controller and I can play all the PS3 games online for free over a wireless connection.  Those two things are very important to me.

Dave is off base with his D+ review, so I might rethink that. The controls are extremely learnable (it took me about a half hour to get the basics together), and the game is easily sped up via hitting the A button (you don't have to watch the player animations).

I don't want to sound like I'm dissing The Critic. I agree with him way more than I disagree, but I think he's way off on MLB 2k7. I've been playing it for two days (obsessively) and it is a very polished, fun baseball game.

The Show might be better, but it wouldn't be because 2k7 stinks. And of course if "arcade" sports is your thing, you can always wait for "The Bigs" to come out later.

I just bought The Show at 6:00 PM and I just stopped playing it now (12:10 AM).  The only time I stopped playing was to check the score of the Indians and Reds game a few times...Indians lost dammit.

The Show is easily one of my favorite Baseball games since MVP 05.  The pitcher/batter interface is great.  The graphics are superb and the rosters are extremely up to date.

I have been obsessed with the RPG-like "Road to the Show" mode.  I created a starting pitcher and I'm trying to get him to the Big Leagues.  After a few good spring training starts some real big league hitters made me their b*tch.  I was actually intimidated to throw to Albert Pujols...after I foolishly challenged him he jacked a dinger and I was pulled from the game.  It was great!  I can already tell I'm gonna be playing the hell out of this game.

Heh- and my Tigers are cleaning up in interleague play (NL sucks!), another victory in the books, so we're tied for first again. Can't wait until the Tigers take on the Indians later. A great early showdown in the division.

The Show's "Road to the Show" mode sounds interesting. Would you say it's like the "Superstar" modes seen in games like Madden?

A Tigers fan, an Indians fan, and I'm a Minnesota boy. To bad the Twins have a losing record against every team in the division so far...
