The controls are extremely learnable (it took me about a half hour to get the basics together)...
I think this was one of the main knocks against it - it's BASEBALL, the controls should be fairly simply and straightforward.  Taking a half hour to get the basics of the controls down is, to me, needlessly excessive.  Why is it giving the player instructions on how to sprint in FIVE easy steps?  Shouldn't something like sprinting be as simply as hitting the correct button?

If the end result of that half hour is a very controllable and fun baseball experience, then it is worth it. And a half hour is not at all out of the ordinary for any game today. Any modern action game is going to make you go through at least that much time in the form of "tutorial" levels.

Sprinting is accomplished by pressing the right trigger. That's it. I suppose you could fault Kush Games for making the explanation over complicated.

I get why the Critic didn't like it. I just want to make sure (and will do so in a review written in that section of these boards soon) that people know that there is another take on the game, so they can judge my rationale with his, and decide if it is the right game for them or not. If you just took Dave's D+ review, you'd think the game had no chance of being good at ALL.

The PS3 will do well if these games take off. If these games tank in sales, the Sony revival may be further delayed.

Are you really stoked about another SOCOM or Ratchet and Clank game??
Critic, you don't have reviews of the second and third Ratchet and Clank games. If you haven't played them you really need to do so. They're definitely among the best games of last generation.Ratchet and Clank is actually the only game I see in the 2007 lineup that excites me (I'm not saying there's no potential; I just don't know anything about the other games).

Heh- and my Tigers are cleaning up in interleague play (NL sucks!), another victory in the books, so we're tied for first again. Can't wait until the Tigers take on the Indians later. A great early showdown in the division.

The Show's "Road to the Show" mode sounds interesting. Would you say it's like the "Superstar" modes seen in games like Madden?
Yea I'm pretty excited about the upcoming Det vs Cle series.  Both teams are playing really well right now.  I honestly don't know who will win the division as it could be anyone of 4 different teams...it will be exciting though.

As for the "Road to the Show" mode...yes it is sort of like Superstar Mode in Madden.  You basically start off in the minors with really crummy player ratings and you have to performs goals in each game to earn training points.  You can then use the training points to increase your skills.

Its really addicitive and since you only control the action of your player, the games go by superfast.  The goals range from easy (get ahead of the better in the count) to difficult (strikeout the batter).

The game is also as complex or simple as you want it to be.  Don't want the golf meter while pitching?  Turn it off.  Basically every option can be turned off if you don't like it.  I really love the pitching interface because there is no guarentee that you will throw a strike.  It really requires skill as well as knowing what the ump is calling that game (some games you will get low strikes or inside pitches etc...).  As a baseball nut its truly a remarkable game.

I think the Twins always remain dangerous because they just have too many quality players to stink as much as they've had. I'm not surprised the White Sox are struggling- I think they won the World Series based on a bunch of guys suddenly overachieving for one year.

I was frankly surprised that the Indians didn't make a better effort last year. They seem to have plenty of young quality depth in the system.

The Tigers have pleasantly surprised me so far. To be eleven games above .500 in a wicked hard division is tremendous, especially with devastating injuries to key players like Kenny Rogers and Joel Zumaya. Of course Gary Sheffield (despite the low average) has been a great pickup- the Tigers lacked a truly "feared" hitter, and as such other guys like Magglio Ordonez is having career years as they are now pitched to.

Here are some links that have media coverage of Sony's Spring Gamer's Day.  Several of the games I mention in the OP are covered.  I highly recommend checking out Uncharted Drakes Fortune and Folklore.  Both look like the could be great fun.  Also check out The Eye of Judgement, which looks to be a pretty sweet take on computerized card games like Magic the Gathering.

I was going to start a new thread for this, but I figured it would work well if I posted it here.

Tomorrow the PS3 will be have a firmware update to 1.80.  The big feature in this update is that PS1, PS2 and DVDs will upscale to 720, 1080i and 1080p.

This is a major update and I can't wait to see how my old DVD's look.  I am also interested to see how PS1 and PS2 games look too.  This is a great update IMO.

God, I wish I had more money. The Eye of Judgement, Home, LittleBigPlanet, and Heavenly Sword are enough reasons to make me want a PS3 like crazy. As a huge nerd/Magic player, I am psyched out of my f-ing mind about The Eye of Judgement.

I hear ya on that one.  I used to play Magic quite a bit back in my younger days.  I'm stoked about the possibilities that The Eye of Judgement brings to videogame/card game hybrid.  The fact that it has online multiplayer almost makes it a must purchase for me.  If the game catches on it could be huge with those that enjoy card games.  The fact that it uses the PS3 Eye and real cards make it that much more appealing to me.
