So what's wrong with Red Steel?

I've been playing this quite a bit lately, and to be honest, I can't really find much wrong with this.  The controls are very intuitive, and while the graphic resolution may be low, I found the environments to be very interesting (and mostly destructible).  I think the main criticism has been with the sword fighting, but if you judge the game for what it is, and not what you wished it would be, it's not bad at all.

I don't know...bad sword play, bland weapons, terrible AI, mediocre graphics, stupid story.....let's see...I think we have a quality game here. I love the fact that when you start sword fighting you can't pull out your gun, very realistic. I also love how every sword fight is staged! This game sucks and the multiplayer is a joke. Anything less then an "F" and that that truly cements the VGC's lunacy into fanboyism. If you want a real FPS get a 360; Call of Duty 2, FEAR and Prey are all better than this sorry excuse of a game.

No offense here, but real FPS fans consider a 360 to be a joke compared to the PC.  Any FPS gamer knows that nothing matches the precision of mouse and keyboard controls.  Dual analog is OK, but most games have a gentle auto lock/targeting feature that makes games easier.

There is really only one console FPS that the masses care about...Halo 3.  The rest of them are just a fluffer until that superstar is ready to go.

Shawn, you obviously haven't actually played the game, and are just regurgitating stuff  you heard from other clueless critics.  What's so bland about the weapons?  What's stupid about the story?  What's terrible about the AI?  And why are the graphics mediocre?  You can't answer, because you don't know squat about this game.  Oh, and one last minor detail: Red Steel also happens to be a lot of fun.  Not that that counts for anything.

The sad thing is, I think I fell victim to the group think about this game, and, after initially enjoying it, decided it wasn't very good (and posted a review in the forums that reflected my thinking). I've since changed my mind on the game, because a review should in fact be based on how YOU like it, not what everyone else says it should be.

I really have had no interest in this game, but reading the full spectrums of opinions in this thread, I almost want to play it to see for myself. I have yet to play any FPS on the Wii, so maybe I should rent it.

If I do, I'll post back, and either REALLY HATE IT, or REALLY LIKE IT.

You get to engage in a shootout while in a working car wash for Pete's sake!  C'mon people, that's worth at least a letter grade!!

And I've found the controls to be as natural and effortless as any FPS I've played to date.

This thread alone will probably make me pick up Red Steel when the price drops. I'm not a big fan of first person shooters, but then again I didn't think I liked Grand Theft Auto type games, but I absolutely love The Godfather for Wii.

I second that statement.  Before reading this thread I had zero interest in Red Steel.  Yet the game can be found for $30 or less and I think I might take a chance on it.

True. That was a very memorable sequence.
