Metroid Prime 3 Corruption Dated: Aug 20!

Great news for Metroid fans (and FPS fans in general who own Wiis).

An official release date is now set for Metroid Prime 3: August 20th!

That's way earlier than I thought. Clearly Nintendo wants to trump Halo 3 by getting this one out the door before Microsoft pushes out Halo. Smart move, since Halo 3 will obilterate most other games released in its wake.

It probably means that there will be a TON of info at this years E3.  Up to this point the game has been shrouded in mystery.  Hopefully alot more news about the game pops up.  I am interested in hearing more about the controls and how well they work...

E3 as it existed last year and in previous years doesn't exist anymore.

Maybe that information will be coming this week. Nintendo invited a lots of press folk to Seattle this week, and I don't think it was to visit the space needle....

Not only that but Super Mario Strikers comes out three weeks earlier which actually excites me...surprising seeing as how I wasn't that interested in the original. Also, Batallion Wars 2 in September, the possibility of Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros. later this year. Next year will probably bring some new IP's, a new Mario Kart, Starfox, Pikmin(hopefully), Punch Out(doubt it but...please Nintendo!!!), Kid Icarus(I'm now hopeful), etc.

Yea I know the old E3 is gone...but companies are still going to use it as a way to get information out.

Not to mention all the 3rd party games coming out (RE4 and Nights comes to mind)
I hope that MP3 doesn't end up a rush job, though.

I'm mainly looking forward to Nights, Manhunt 2, Alien Syndrome, that light gun game Sega is doing, and all of the first party software. I honestly wasn't expecting MP3 until '08. I don't think MP3 will be a rush job since it was originally supposed to be a launch title and kept getting pushed back. I have a good feeling about it considering how oft-delayed the first one was...look at how good that turned out? Now, Metroid Prime 2 sucked but that WAS rushed and that is proof that companies need to take their time, even if it means delaying a game countless times.

Take a look at Blizzard (makers of Warcraft, Diablo, Starcraft)...they take their time with every single product and they delay games longer than any company in the industry.  The result?  The most immaculate record in all of gaming.  Everyone one of their games is critically acclaimed and and a commercial success. Plus you could go to your local software store (ebgames, Gamestop, even WalMart) and still buy Starcraft which is 10 years old!  Thats unheard of in gaming.

When will companies realize that rushing games may equal short-term revenue, but it hurts them long term?  A better made, highly polished game has a better chance of making money, than a sloppy rush job that sits on store shelves for months.
