Does your X-box 360 display games very dark by default?

Postby wdm » May 23rd, 2007, 2:42 pm

I recently purchased a 360 and I have it hooked up to my DLP through component cables, running at 1080i.  I've noticed that the dashboard as well as all the the games I own are displayed very dark by default.  Adjusting the brightness on the tv and the games fixes this problem somewhat (hard to find that balance between too dark and washed - out), but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

This may sound simple, but make sure the Component cables are all plugged in properly.

My friend had a problem similar to what you were describing and he had some of the cables mixed up in the back.

That would be my first guess though.

Thanks.
I did notice when I was connecting it that my tv apparantly does not have an input for the yellow component jack, so that one is not being used.  I will double check to see that I have everything right, but I had my ps2 hooked up the same way (with the yellow one not used) and it seemed to be fine.  Maybe I missed something though.
Thanks.

You don't need yellow plugged in, thats for if you want to use the cables as composite video cables.

Thanks for the responses.
I did have it plugged in right, but I think I solved the problem:
I restored all the picture qualitities of the tv to the default and set the 360 at 720p rather than 1080i (my tv supports both, but is native 720p).  This seems to have solved the ugly "jaggies" on walls.  I was ending up with a "washed out" picture by trying to light the screen and up the contrast.
In the end, the think it looks much better now.  I still have to up the brightness a bit on each game's settings, but I suppose they put that option there for a reason.
