Sony: internet's "vocal minority" hurting PS3

Postby JustLikeHeaven1 » May 25th, 2007, 9:57 am

My whole point is that all the PR guys for every gaming company say crazy things.  Why make a big deal out of this if you aren't gonna make a stink about all the crap Peter Moore says about the 360 or what Reggie says about Nintendo?

Watching these guys duck, dodge and evade question is humourous because they have to make a turd smell like a rose.  To me its not news.

The 360 had a plethora of problems its first year and all it took was a few games to quiet the masses.  Sadly they haven't done much lately except increase the price and lose more ground to Nintendo.  I just don't see the point to examine every little thing Sony does wrong.

[QUOTE=Steerforth]How can they afford a price drop? They launched with a HUGE price drop, just in the cost of components, not even figuring marketing, advertising, shipping these boxes around the globe etc. I know manufacturing cost will drop over time, but unless they get a big river of game licensing  income pretty durn quick, they are screwed. I know convential wisdom is, "Sony will eventually prevail because they are Sony", I think it is bunk. Playstation  succeeded because it gave developers a cheap, friendly format and eventually a large user base to sell their games in a non-Nintendo environment, which was a hell of a load off, no question. Playstation 2 continues to build on that, and they were able to lock up a lot of exclusive games from the pull of their mass. But the 360 has fractured their "next gen"market, their games have have to look incredible to justify their cost and their hype, and Bluray will take a long time to become what they need it to be right now. My point is PS 1 and 2 succeeded for good reasons and PS3 will fail for good reasons.

I may be wrong, but I say this Christmas will finally prove  that the PS3 will never catch fire. I know it is trendy to bash Sony, and I won't even pretend to be nonpartial, but they have given gamers ample reason to bash them. Why are people sticking up for PR men, lol? The most miserable creatures this side of car salesman. Death to $300 + game consoles. You can't sell Cadilacs for the price of VW bugs.

I'm kinda on your side here, but the fact that the Wii's graphics will really look old in a few years and the fact that people are apathetic towards the 360 in Japan will open the door again for Sony. Games sell systems. PS3 has some great looking games coming out that appeal to non-Wii fanatics. Until last month, Sony still had the best selling console for years and years. Put the shovels back... they arent dead yet.

No one has to argue they are dead to point out that they are in a lot of trouble.  Sony could outsell the NES and still have the PS3 be considered a failure by Playstation standards.  It's like claiming the N64 was a success just because it finished the generation having sold a decent number of systems, even though it had damaged Nintendo's name so bad their next gen was a lost cause and they had sold poorly overall compared to the Nintendo legacy.  Sure, Sony could sell a lot of systems by the time this is over, but they have far too many cracks showing in their armour for them not to take some real heavy hits.

As for the Microsoft doing poorly in Japan thing, it doesn't matter.  Japan is gone totally Nintendo crazy now.  The biggest franchise in Japan, the one that is so big it's release is basically a national holiday, was given to the DS because the DS is as good as a licence to print money in Japan.  From all signs the DS's image has rubbed off on the Wii over there.  It doesn't matter if Microsoft doesn't sell one system over there; Japan is esentially DS centric for this generation, with some amount of interest in the Wii.  Heck, they're using DSs for museum tours and in schools now.  Nothing else much matters in Japan.  Then, for anyone wanting to play awesome Sony titles and cool quirky stuff, there's the now affordable PSP.  Where's Sony going to find it's typical market for Playstation consoles in that market?  No where.

Not all crap is created equal.  Some crap smells worse than others (I don't have to tell you that! ) and Sony's PR crap has been pretty stinkin' rotten as of late, in accordance with the news/sales (or lack thereof) that PS3 provides them with.

Its very true that Sony's turds have been extra rotten the past few months, but you can't tell me that Peter Moore's excuses for the 360's hardware issues haven't be laugh out loud funny...I wish I could find a link to his, "electronic devices are gonna break" statement (or whatever he said).

Also I must tip my cap to Sony for their most recent PS3 update (1.80).  Playing all my PS1 \ PS2 games in 1080p is amazing.  Plus my DVDs now look 10x as crisp in 1080p as well.  I think Sony is doing a bang up job constantly improving the PS3.

You will find any decent stuggling company is constantly trying to improve its products.  That's why I like systems that perform poorly.  If the PS3 does poorly enough, I have no doubt that I will end up loving it (as I've said before I'm almost sold on a PSP, which has only become good after quite a bit of struggling).

You should have seen how Nokia kept improving the N-Gage.

Isn't this sort of like Great Britain blaming the Revolution on the Colonial "vocal minority" down in Philadelphia?

Those damned people with their ideas and their "free speech."  Where do they get off?  Don't they realize who we are?  We'll tell you what to think and say and buy!

The problem with the PS3 is that actually most "hard-core" gamers waste their money virtually on every single game they see, and then the see a $600 machine out there that they really want and can't afford.

So, what this people do is go on the internet and start harassing/criticizing Sony and there PS3. All I have to say to these people is "if you hadn't wasted your life, and actually worked hard you would live a comfortable life and be able to afford almost anything out there on the gaming market.

The sad truth is if a person doesn't have something they always want to make other people think it sucks...

Whoa! Easy there, big guy. I thought I just emailed you about NOT FLAMING! Oh, and yes I want a PS3, sort of, even though I HATE HATE HATE Sony. But Levan, why are you taking up for Sony anyway? You are a Microsoft fan.
