The (very) short list of things that are wrong with the God of War series

- "AAAAAREEEEEEEEEEEEES!" - Kratos, GOW1
- Invisible walls (GOW2 exclusive)
- The easier difficulty levels are prone to button-mashing (both games, though strategy is definitely needed for God and Titan difficulty)
- Occasional butchering of Greek mythology (e.g. the actual Greek mythos does not have the Hydra as humongous sea creatures, but rather the Hydra's main weapon is the ability to regenerate its head when decapitated.  On the plus side, many changes made by the staff were very good).
- The sex minigame in GOW2.  It just seemed a little out-of-place.  Couldn't they have found a better setting?
- Unskippable cutscenes (but with cutscenes this awesome, why would you want to?  Still, they do get boring watching them the nth time...)
- I found some of the puzzles in GOW1 (especially early in Pandora's temple) to be a bit plodding and slow, ruining the frantic pace.
- Mashing the R1 button in GOW1 (it was changed to O in GOW2, thank the gods)

Wow...I really had to think hard for this list!  It just goes to show you that God of War is probably the best non-Nintendo franchise of all time.

Oh there are a lot of franchises better than the best Nintendo ones.  Shinobi comes instantly to mind (minus the one bad one).

Depending on the Zelda, I'd say Beyond Oasis beats it.

Depending on the Metroid, I'd say Zillion destroys the original and a kick in the face beats the terrible 3D ones.  Metroid 2, the GBA ones, and Super Metroid are a bit hearder to find a "better than" for sure.

NOTHING compares to the PONG franchise! Such Stellar, deep, magnificent titles as QUADRAPONG!, PONG DOUBLES and the absolute top of the line SNOOPYPONG! (renamed PUPPYPONG after the lawsuit) ...those were the days!

I played it on VC.  I am not impressed.  There are no Zelda games, except for maybe the multi-player Four Sword GBA game, which fail against the Beyond Oasis standard

I think the 3D ones are some of the best games I've ever played.  It takes a special sort of game to make me appreciate the first person perspective, because I have to fight the nausea from motion-sickness.  The Metroid Prime games, and Call of Cthulhu are among the few that were worth the torture.

But I won't argue too much since you appreciate the vast majority of the Metroid games

Opinions are like ********, and so am I.

Metroid 2 is one of my favorite games of all time.  Super Metroid is an undeniable masterpiece.  The GBA games are what should have been put on the Gamecube, just the Gamecube ones should have had slightly better graphics.  Metroid Prime is... not good.  The original game is nearly unplayable.

It's like the Sonic series.  It has some of my favorite games ever, and some of my least favorite games ever, so it's hard for me to comment on the series' quality  overall.

Beyond Oasis was, quite possibly, programed in heaven.
Metroid Prime is... not good.  The original game is nearly unplayable.
I gotta disagree on both counts.  I play the original Metroid regularly, and I enjoy it quite a bit.  I don't think it's anywhere near unplayable.

And Metroid Prime was such a pleasant surprise.  I was extremely skeptical when I heard it was going to be made into an FPS, to the point that I refused to buy or play it when it was released.  That in combination with the new Legend of "Celda" rumors made me feel like Nintendo was losing its collective mind.  I was finally goaded into giving it a try, and well, just like Wind Waker, I loved it... in fact, it almost became my favorite game of all time, if not for a few Zelda games and Super Metroid keeping it out of that spot.  I was glad that it was still a Metroid game in every way I had become accustomed to, and that though it was told from the first-person perspective, it wasn't an FPS primarily.

As much as I really liked Metroid Fusion, Metroid Prime came much closer to being like Metroid and Super Metroid than Metroid Fusion did.  Metroid Fusion was more like Metroid 2 in the sense that the exploration was more about individual goals, and areas that opened up based on those goals, instead of just areas opening up based on treating the entire open-ended world as one big environmental puzzle.  While I love both of those games and don't mind that they departed from the original environmental puzzle structure of the series, I love them in the same sense that I loved Zelda 2 -- an experiment that worked well, but I was glad the whole series didn't transform into that.

One man's heaven is another man's purgatory, I guess.  I found the game to be pretty blah.  I didn't hate it or anything, and I felt compelled to finish it just to say I did, but it was largely a game I just didn't enjoy as much as the vast majority of games I play, let alone Zelda and Metroid.
