Yes, there are lots, but I completely forgot about this game until playing it this morning.   JACKAL.....anyone else play this?  I noticed there wasn't a review.

....I never played the NES version (though I recall the ad with JACKAL/CONTRA quite well, four beefed up army guys that looked like RAMBO stunt guys), but I played the coin-op.

To me the coin-op just seemed to be COMMANDO in a jeep. Was the NES game much different?

Jackal was an awesome two player jeep run and gun. This along with guerrilla war were my two favorite two player games.

Yeah, Jackal was terrific! A pure NES classic through and through. That and Tiger-Heli were some of the better "non-space" shooters for that system.

Another weird game that I remember enjoying as a kid.......North vs. South.  It's a weird real-time strategy game with some crazy stuff going on.  I completely forgot about it, and played it today, but i don't remember how to do much of anything.

Anyone else know this game?  It's great 2 player fun.

It's way better than Commando. Much longer, more challenging, better graphics, better enemies, bosses, etc. The fundamental gameplay is similar but that's an unfair comparison.

Jackal is THE best overhead run n' gun shooter on NES.

I'd say the runners-up are "Gunsmoke" and "Thundercade".

I don't like "Guerrila War" that much because you get unlimited continues, it's only good for one play-through. It's basically disposable.

"Commando" and "Ikari Warriors" have have aged very poorly due to their slow crawling gameplay.

My most recent interesting discovery is "P.O.W". It's not a great game, but it's an interesting game. It's a lone-commando military game like Commando/Ikari Warriors/etc, but the actual gameplay is strictly side-scrolling street fighting like Double Dragon.

Yeah I just reviewed this and it kicks ass!!  Love the whole "Choplifter" vibe of rescuing captured soldiers.  Running over people is fun too - and not just in real life!

My favorite NES game.  Super Mario Bros 2!!!   How did this awesome game get the label of being the Black sheep of the Mario series?   Yeah its, different, but its awesome.

Well, the Commando analogy really doesn't indicate much considering that Commando never was an entertaining game. I consider the second installment of SMB to be lacking mainly because it's a palette swap of the Japanese exclusive, Doki Doki Panic and Nintendo basically dressed the game in Emperor Mario's attire.

While it's original to a certain extent, I would give more accolades to Nintendo if they actually took the effort to produce an original game, which is why I consider the third installment much easier to admire.
