It's been so long since I've had an NES it's hard to recall but my top NES games in memory are
1. ZANAC!
2. Megaman 2
3. Lifeforce
4. Gauntlet
5. Ice Climber

I may be in the minority on that last one, but it was the first GOOD NES games I bought (before Super Mario Bros.), since I got the R.O.B. set!

Willow is a great Zelda clone based off the movie, and when I said nemo I meant Little Nemo The Dream Master, which is also based off a movie that came out at the time. Both are solid, fun games that have actually aged pretty well in my opinion.

Why does Mega Man 2 get all the love?  I'm not arguing, just people arguing about the best sequels within any franchise (Metroid, Mario Bros, etc.), but this seems unanmious.
Gentlemen, only one game qualifies:

GUARDIAN LEGEND

Compile Space Shooter + Zelda like Gameplay + Blaster Master like Gameplay = Best NES Game Ever

=)
Of course, if Dave reviews this game, he would give it a D or a C. You know why? Because Dave NEVER rates hard games high. Since he goes through so many games, he doesn't act like us when focusing on one for a long period of time. This is why games like F-Zero GX and Blaster Master were scored so low.

I <3 ball breakin games that tests your skills as a gamer.
I had heard of this game, but never played it, so I found the ROM and fired up an emulator! It looks good, but is definitely hard! I can't pass the first stage (vertical shooter)! I think it's because the "background" scrolls so fast that the illusion of speed is disorienting.

It's tough to narrow down my favorite NES games, but I'll give it a try:
5. Crystalis (Zelda type Action/RPG)
4. Battletoads
3. Super Mario Bros.
2. Metroid
1. The Legend of Zelda

It's generally considered to have the best level design, difficulty, selection of bosses, and weapons (everyone loves the metal man blades). I, actually, like Mega Man 3 as much or more. I think Snake Man's level, and music, is awesome, and it is a well balanced game as well. Anything after that is more or less the same thing, but I found all of them fun (I think I beat every NES Mega Man aside from the first).

Well, just to switch things up I'll comment in a Nintendo thread without dissing it.  The best NES game is Star Tropics.  This is undeniable fact.  I still have the letter you put into water to read the secret message and everything.  Second is Star Tropics 2.  I don't know why those games haven't had a sequel on the GBA or DS by now.
