Calling All Cars
For those that don't know its a PS3 downloadable game made by the fella that was behind Twisted Metal and God of War. Its an arcade game in which you compete against four other oppenents trying to capture criminals that escape from jail. After you pick up the crook its your job to escort him back to jail before another car steals him from you. Needless to say its wacky and fun.
The game has a Ren and Stimpy cartoony vibe that I find really charming and the gameplay has that "just one more game" feel.
I can play this game and watch the time fly by. It really is simple, but its addictive as all hell. Its fast frentic and the online matches can be really intense. I implore anybody with a PS3 and $10 to go get this game. You won't be sorry.

Its a fairly simple game, I wouldn't want it to be slapped on to a disc. I'm much more likely to play something like your typical XBLA game for 10 minutes if I don't have to change DVD's just to play a classic style game that will be quickly over.

It wouldn't make sense finacially to sell the game in stores. I don't like the fact that I don't have a physical copy of the game, but it only cost me $9.99. So why I don't like download only stuff I understand why they aren't selling it in stores.
The PS3 does have built in Wi-Fi and mine can catch a signal halfway across my house. Why not just move your PS3 closer to your wireless router for 20 min? Sure its a pain, but if you aren't playing anything else on it what do you have to lose?

Sure it would. The game obvious had low production costs, and they can press out those DVDs for pennies to the dollar. The real reason is it's online is because they need a "hook" to reel people into the world of online games. This is obviously a quality title, and bound to get a lot of attention much like Geometry Wars did for the 360.

Theres a lot more to that equation than just the cost of the actual physical media. You got things like publisher fees, getting a cheap PS3 game actually stocked, etc.

I think for them to put the game in stores and pay for all the packaging and shipping costs the title would probably rocket up to around $20-$30. It wouldn't be worth that much. Maybe once the PSN gets enough orginal content they can release a disc of games like Microsoft did.

[QUOTE=The Video Game Critic]Would it kill Sony to slap that thing on a DVD and sell it in the store?? Oh yeah - they're trying to lure people onto their on-line service. It's the money thing again.

It's $10. That's as much as Nintendo's Virtual Console N64 offerings for an old game. As it's new, it's actually a pretty decent value for what you're getting.

Dude everything is a money thing. If your online, its a money thing. When you go to the store and buy 2 Wii's it's a money thing. Videogames are a business and wether you buy them online or not you are still buying into the buisness regardless.

This has to be the dumbest thing the VGC has ever written. Of course it is a money thing...it's a business. Ya know, millions of people love the "online thing". Do yourself a favor, just accept the industry is changing and get over yourself. You sound like my Dad who always says "ya know, when I was a kid, blah, blah, blah". Stop being such a dinosaur. We all get it; you hate online and the PS3. Can we move on?
Also keep in mind that the Sony online service is free so what exactly are they luring people into?
