I just got a DS! I had one last year but traded it in b/c honestly there weren't too many games that I enjoyed on it. Plus, I thought the PSP was killing it in terms of quality titles in 2006. Well 2007 has been mediocre at best for the PSP (save Puzzle Challenge and Ratchet) and I really wanted some light hearted games to play while on the train and so on. Of course, there are NO light hearted games on the PSP so I grabbed a DS and bought "Club House Games" and couldn't be happier. Sure there are some crap games on it but I really like the collection. Anybody else pick this up? I am going to wait to get some more games for it. I am looking at Hotel Dusk and Touching of the Dead; both of which have received mixed reviews. Any thoughts on either one of these games? Please do not mention Phoenix Wright....I thought that game was TERRIBLE!!!!!

I really like Hotel Dusk though I haven't made it all the way through yet. I keep inching a little further along everytime though. It's got terrific atmosphere, especially for a hand held game. Rob loves it. In my book it's an A+ just for being different but I'm not so sure you'll like it as much. If you enjoyed any of the old lucas arts graphic adventure style games you'll get a kick out of it. If not you may want to pass.
Dawn of Sorrow is pretty good and you can't go wrong with New Super Mario Brothers. Age of Empires just isn't that much fun, Tak (something or other) is like any other 3d platformer, I'd pass on that one. Pac-Pix feels more like a demo than a real game. Contact's an acquired taste and one I couldn't get into no matter how much I tried. Brain Age is kind of fun and the Sodokus would be great on the train.
So, yeah, grab Brain Age

For the record, Phoenix Wright is a tremendous game, as is its sequel(s). You are, however, certainly entitled to hate it.
I've wanted to try Club House Games for awhile. Looks like great fun, as I do like to play some chess from time to time (I usually get p0wned, though, and then I go through another 8 months or so before I get the chess mood again).
I thought Hotel Dusk was awesome. It's a great interactive novel, but seeing as you hated Phoenix Wright, I have a hard time seeing you liking this one. I'd be cautious. I haven't tried Touch the Dead yet.
You may like Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime, which I just reviewed (it's in the reviews section of the board). It's a really well done game that is light hearted, yet it has some very unique elements.

I am surprised you like Clubhouse games. There are a handful of good time wasters , on it but I suspect 75% of those games were made on someones lunchbreak. The chess AI is horrible, on Hard it takes the computer 15+ freaking seconds plus to move, and he ussually has a meltdown and does something really dumb late in the game. I can beat it regularily, and Kasparov could cut out enough of his brain to fill a thimble and beat me with that. I liked that block puzzle game though.
Don't buy Brain Age, wait for Brain Age 2, supposedly they cleaned up some of the word recognition issues. (I also had issues with some of the writing too, but it was a misunderstanding. It is programed to be fast, so if you lift your stylus in the middle of a letter, it thinks you are done, doesn't recognize the letter and you are screwed and frustrated. You can't lift the pen until you are done writing.)
Advance Wars DS is really good strategy game, and I'll give you a hint to help you enjoy the game: Press start whenever you suspect someone is going to speak!
Trace memory is a decent adventure game if you are into that genre, but it is no masterpiece.
I think Tetris DS was horrible, You have been warned.
Mariokart is a must buy, so is Mario64DSUltra.
Have fun!

Heh. Yeah, the dialogue isn't on the level of other Intelligent Systems games, that's for sure (-:
@ Actraiser: Yeah, Hotel Dusk would easily make my 2007 top five as of now......... but it may not survive that when all those big name titles come out later in the year.

I wouldn't get Touch of the Dead. It has been getting pretty bad reviews, and I don't really think the stylus is an acceptable replacement for a light gun, or even a cursor and joystick. This would be about how I imagine Touch of the Dead plays, "tap, tap, taptap, taptaptaptaptap, swipe, tap" followed by the DS being thrown out of a window.

I thought Tetris DS was FANTASTIC, you have been warned!

And I have not seen clubhouse games but it sounds like the
"GAMES EXPLOSION" GBA game I bought-see review-it has great
little games like darts, checkers, bowling and space invaders.
If you can find any of the GBA arcade hits like "3 in 1" I
reviewed, there too...and the super mario and Zelda games
of course. I've really been more into the GBA side than DS
for awhile now. PUZZLE QUEST may be the first DS game I'll buy;
Oh, Mario cart is a necesity for either GBA or DS!
Play on!
P.S. and of course...ZOOKEEPER!!!!

I might give rocket slime a chance, that looks pretty good and I liked the review somebody put up on this site...sounds interesting. I am just surprised by the amount of crap on the DS right now. I can see why it is so successful...most of the games are geared to kids! No offense to the kids on this site. Still happy with my purchase but I dont' think it will replace my psp for too long.
I saw Metroid Pinball for $20...anybody else play this? The VGC gave it a high score but I am skeptical.....he tends to give arcade type games inflated scores.

tetris DS horrible?
it has tight controls and online play, the extra modes are mostly lame, but it beats pretty much every other tetris game released in the past 15 years

This must be the 50th time I've raved about this game on this forum, but get Pac'n Roll. Most criminally underrated game ever.
