The Video Game Critic

THE BOONDOCKS is a comic strip originally created and drawn by Aaron McGruder, an EXTREMELY funny black guy. It is the first strip I've seen that takes black culture seriously, and of course the strip offends, huey is one angst-ridden character and his brother riley is a wanna-be Thug! Although it stars children, it is really more like DOONESBURY than Peanuts, it is very political and comments (usually in a bad light) on our pop culture, relationships and more. I always loved the strip. I find the cartoon ..DIFFERENT. It's FAR more offensive than the strip, and that was the creators intent, to have the fredom to have characters swear and such. I thought the two "pilot" episodes overstepped the boundries of moral acceptability even in that context, but as I said, later shows have been more story driven and thankfully cut back on the nudity and disgusting sensuality. Regardless, the shows have a message and its NOT SUBTLE!

The person who makes that show is black, so you can't be offended by it because it seems like a white person trying to reference black culture. I think I'm in the minority here; I find the Boondocks hilarious.

Well it doesn't actually offend my sense of right or wrong. It offends my sense of aesthetics and insults my intellegence. You're telling me those are drawings of black people? With few exception on that show most of them look as I have described. White dudes with afros and a tan. Even the children's grandfather looks white. And old age is when races tend to look the most distinct from one another. I hope no one construes this in the wrong light. Listen we're all born with the same rights but we all look different and those guys look white to me.

Also I disagree that because the guy is black makes it ok for him to make fun of black people. If that's the case he shouldn't be making fun of Asians, Whites, Hispanics and every other 'race' he isn't apart of. Which I'm sure he does. That is a terrible double standard in our country. Black guy can make fun of white stereotypes but white guy cannot make fun of black stereotypes. Racism is a two way street.

Also I'm sure the comic strip is actually good. I have never read it myself but I have heard a number of good things about it from sources that I trust.

Watch the show. He doesn't make fun of black people. He makes fun of some aspects of black culture, and I don't think that makes the show racist. The show is not saying there's anything inherently wrong with black people; it simply ridicules things that deserve ridicule. Take for instance the R. Kelly episode someone else wrote about. The message of that episode was that R. Kelly was a guilty man (there were videos of him doing some obscene things with underage girls if you're not familiar with the case), and that just because he's black doesn't mean he's innocent. That's actually a good message about equality if you ask me.

Anywho, anyone remember Stimpy's Invention? I loved that game when I was a kid, but it really is craptastic. It takes about ten tries for me to do any given move. Awful, awful game.
