While that does suck that Nintendo is throwing its weight around again with thrid party support and that fact will once again probably lead to its undoing, I am in the severe minority about the controls on this game. I love them!

I also like rancid milk and the 7800 controllers, tho

I agree with that.  The motion controls in Metal Slug work really well in my opinion.  While I wish the classic controller was an option it doesn't really bother me when I play.

The Truth About Metal Slug for the Wii

My take on this is that SNK is trying to pass the buck here. If they didn't use the classic controller, why not use the Gamecube controller then? Was that also unavailable? And it wasn't required, certainly, for them to release the Metal Slug Anthology as a launch title. They could have waited if that was the issue.

Sure, yeah, Nintendo has this reputation for third party shenanigans. But I've always suspected that it is overstated, and merely an excuse for some developers to complain when mediocre efforts do not sell. To that end, I applaud Ubisoft for recently coming out and admitting that their rushed ports were crap (well, I haven't played them, so I'll reserve judgement myself, but that's what the Ubisoft president said recently).

The motion controls would have been fine if they had just let you map some buttons.

Yeah, but seriously, who would want to use the Gamecube controller to play 2D games?  With its tiny D-Pad (the exact same size as the on on GBA, by the way) and weird/confusing button layout/shape, I'll go on record as saying that the Gamecube pad is the worst controller ever for 2D games.  I hate it so much in that regard that when I bought Sonic Gems Collection (since it was Gamecube only in the states), I bought a PS2 controller adapter to play it with, a decision I don't regret for a second.

[QUOTE=JustLikeHeaven]This is where online could really come in handy.  I'm sure if SNK tried they could create a patch that would allow classic controller support.

The Wii is already online with Wiiconnect24 (or whatever its called).  If the system had a little bit more internal storage there might be some room for small patches.

I hate patches and system updates as much as the next guy, but in some cases they serve a purpose.  A patch could have been issued in Twilight Princess for that guy in the room with the cannon.  Stuff like that only makes sense.

This is what will happen:
