The Truth About Metal Slug for the Wii

Over the last few days I've been communicating with an anonymous source who has shed some light on the development of the Metal Slug Anthology for the Wii. I will likely adjust my review based on these comments.
"In your review of Metal Slug Anthology you say that somebody at SNK insisted on including motion sensing controls. It was not SNK, it is Nintendo that insists that the remote be the primary controller and some form of motion sensing must be included.
SNK also claim that Nintendo never provided them with the tools for Classic Controller support or they would have included it.
Sure, it's a botched collection but it's not all SNK's fault."

Well it shouldn't effect the game because of regardless of how the decision was reached, the result is the same. Anyways, just stick to the PS2 version, as it fixes all the problems.

I don't think the critic is saying that it will affect the grade at all. I think he's saying he's going to change what he wrote in the review.

Yet the classic controller is in fact used in Mortal Kombat Armageddon. Why then didn't SNK get to use it?
Methinks it is a matter of timing. Nintendo probably didn't have the toolset ready. Certainly, if Dave's source has a different story, I'd be happy to hear it here.
The same people who would be interested in Metal Slug would still be interested in it now. If it's a case of timing, shame on SNK for rushing an inferior product, when they could have waited. Shame on Nintendo if they just withheld it entirely.

Nintendo really needed to sell the motion sensing capabilities of the Wii. If it had classic controller capability, its no different than the PS2 version. Metal Slug was essentially a launch title. They needed to distinguish versions ad have motion in every game to stop the Wii from being a Gamecube with Apple looks.

Well Nintendo have a bit of a history regarding constraining developers to put it mildly. That was suposed to be behind them now though.

Yes, that sounds like classic Nintendo....I remember when Nanostray came out, the guy who made that was complaining because Nintendo strongly insisted he incoporate some touch control, so he made a 'touch' button that would have been better off mapped to the real buttons, and made the game a little worse.
They just get to hell-bent on making people incorporate the unique features so they don't get forgotten, obviously it would be best to just let the situation decide, but that is not the way it goes down. Stupid.
Makes me wonder if Smash Bros will truly use GC/Classic controls. Who really knows?

If what SNK said was true, then Nintendo certainly does deserve criticism in the control department, it sounds to me like SNK's trying to pass the buck to Nintendo so they can avoid the negative press that their game has gotten (some problems which are clearly their fault, like the bogus extras and lazy interface). Thankfully, there's little they could say that would excuse the laziness of the PS2 version of MSA.

This is where online could really come in handy. I'm sure if SNK tried they could create a patch that would allow classic controller support.
The Wii is already online with Wiiconnect24 (or whatever its called). If the system had a little bit more internal storage there might be some room for small patches.
I hate patches and system updates as much as the next guy, but in some cases they serve a purpose. A patch could have been issued in Twilight Princess for that guy in the room with the cannon. Stuff like that only makes sense.
