How many times have you bought the same game?
Strange question, but given the success of Nintendo's VC and XBox Live Arcade, how many times have you bought the SAME game?
Example: I own Joust for the Atari 2600, 800XL, 7800, Gameboy, Game.com, PS1 (Williams Compilation Disk), and PS2 (Midway Arcade Complilation Disk). (7 versions)
I own at least 4 versions of Ms Pac-Man, 3 Donkey Kongs, 4 Pole Positions, and 5 Defenders.
The good thing (I guess you could say it's a good thing) is that the old 8-bit games are all completely different (2600 Donkey Kong is a LOT different than 7800 Donkey Kong), but when is enough enough? Am I looking for the 'perfect' version, or am I just collecting games for the sake of collecting them?
I'm glad I don't have the Wii or 360 hooked-up to the internet...who knows what I'd re-buy...

When I first saw this thread, I thought you were reffering to the SAME EXACT COPY of a game; for instance I've bought Tapper for the 2600 3 times because it's a good game, not too common and good trading fodder.
But I'm surprised by your other question, which you sort of answered yourself. Collectors are completists, we want to own as many of the games made for system X as possible. As you said, sometimes different versions are more fun. I prefer Lock N Chase and Dark Cavern on 2600, but Burgertime on INTV, Ladybug on Colecovision and Joust on 5200 and Centipede on 7800! ..But I still want the other versions in my collection. A fun game is a fun game even if you've played it before on a different system.

Got three Ocarina of Times and two Majora's Masks, split between original N64 carts, the Wind Waker Master Quest bonus disc, and Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition.
Gameboy pirate multicart-wise, I've got 3 copies of Tetris (one is the original cart) and 2 copies of Super Mario Land.
And, if we count remakes, I also have both the original and the Playstation remakes of Final Fantasy 1 and 2.

I'm about to rebuy Super Paper Mario. I thought it sucked, sold it on ebay, played it again, loved it, and now I hate myself.
Street Fighter 2 games? Geez... I have no idea... tons. Other than that, not many repeats if at all.

I have plenty of games where I have 2-3 copies of each. Old stuff like Centipede, Joust, etc.
But the champion is, believe it or not, the first Sonic The Hedgehog...4 copies!
*pack-in cart
*6-Pak (Genesis)
*Sonic Mega Collection (Gamecube)
*Sega Smash Pack (Dreamcast)

I've had Sonic in 4 forms (original, six-pack, Sonic Jam, Sonic Mega Collection), and Mario World in 3. Other than that I've purchased quite a few versions of Pac-Man, Street Fighter 2, and Tetris.

Too many to list, got plenty like Ms Pac-Man where I own multiple copies of the 2600 version, a 5200 version, 7800 version, SuperNes version, a PSX version, two GBA versions, a Xbox version, and a GameCube version.
