Do you actually buy all of the rare carts that you review (Mangia, Quadrun, etc.) or do you play emulated versions? Purchasing rare carts would get quite expensive.
No, for a few rare 2600 games I reviewed copies of the games. A few years back there used to be a guy who would burn any ROM on a cartridge for you for about $15. As you can imagine, his operation was shut down.
