I want to get another shooter on the Virtual Console. I looked through your reviews and saw three B+ reviews and an A- as far as shooters on the Virtual Console. I assume you'd suggest R-Type, but is there any reason to go with Blazing Lazers, Dead Moon, or Super Star Soldier instead?

They are all good. I prefer Super Star thought. Blazing Lazers and Super Star are similar and different gameplay from R-type. You might want to look at some gameplay videos on youtube to help you decide.

If your first game was a vertical shooter, you may want to go with the side-scrolling Dead Moon for variety's sake.

Personally I prefer Superstar Soldier to R-Type (great though R-Type is). I aways prefer vertical shooters though

I forgot about Dead Moon. That game had some really cool bosses.

Actually, the first shooter I bought on the Virtual Console was Gradius III, a side-scroller, but I have plenty of shooters on other systems so it doesn't really make a difference if it's vertical or horizontal.

gradius III is awful on the SNES. the slowdown is unforgivable

The SNES is not the best system for shooters (Darius and Axelay being exceptions)....I am a huge RAIDEN fan and it sux big time on SNES. Even the Lynx card is better! Genesis got a far better port as is usual for shooters(anyone ever play the version of Thunderfoce 3 for SNES which was Retitled? SLOW AND FLICKERY!); I don't own a TG16....how good is Raiden on that? I still think the PSX RAIDEN PROJECT is the ultimate vertical shooter!
