Star Fox on VC= Best purchase I have made in a while

I just bought Star Fox on my Virtual Console because I no longer have an N64, and that used to be one of my favorites.  This has really shown the value of the virtual console to me.  It is such a great game and it brought back so many memories, plus it plays perfectly with the GC controller.

Are there ANY other Star Fox games that are worth playing?  This has given me a bit of a Star Fox fever, wishing there were some worthy sequels to pick up for the DS or something, but the reviews have been mostly mild.  Any suggestions.

I thought Star Fox 64 sucked, but I loved the SuperNes original. I'd suggest trying that when it eventually comes to the VC.

I've noticed two kinds of Starfox people. Those who love Starfox 64 and hate Starfox SNES, and those who love Starfox SNES while hating SF64.

Put me in the former category. Although, I don't actually hate the SNES Starfox, I just can't understand preferring it over Starfox 64. They play the same; the only difference is that Starfox 64 is superior in almost every way. It has tighter controls (joystick anyone?), better graphics, and better levels.

And a less epic feel and worse music and more annoying voices than the SNES game produced.

I actually liked Star Fox Assault for the Gamecube.  It certainly has its problems (particularly with the control set-up while on foot; give me two stick support that has the fire button on A!), but it has a nice look to it, amazing music, and generally tight controls.  And considering that you can pick it up for less than $20 nowadays, it's easier to recommend it for a purchase than it was at $50.

I also cannot understand why anyone would prefer the garbbled mess of the SNES Starfox over the prettier, better produced, more experiences, better controlled, mind explosion that is Starfox 64. That's in my top ten of all time.

And no... all of the other Star fox games suck. Assualt and Adventures included. PUT HIM BACK IN THE DAM ARWING AND LEAVE HIM THERE

FUNK

I  can't understand how you think the SNES game felt more epic if you agree with my points. If you mute it then you have no argument. Besides, the SNES music was just as crappy.

I don't have an opinion one way or the other on the N64 version, but I have always thought Starfox SNES was the best example in all of gaming of graphics over gameplay.  It's boring.  The whole "game" is the 3D visuals.

Well, I'll just have to put in the final word on this.....

SNES : Great sense of awe for those who played it when it first came out. Awesome production values, music, graphics and atmosphere was unlike anything else at the time. Control is as good as a d-pad can do, and a d-pad was all we pretty much knew. Still a classic, game that makes me happuy as soon as it is botted up.

64 : VERY pretty N64 graphics, very tight control, great level design, hard mode fairly challenging. Step backs are the voice work, but life goes on I guess. I think it is also a classic, improved gameplay wise everything over the original, made not as impressive as a game overall.

SFAdventures : Blah.

SFAssault : Ruined. Walking and 'tank level' horrible. Arwing levels not that great, can generally hover in anyone spot, bounce of buildings with little damage, most mission repetitive, blow up all the shields or generators, blow up main target. Story bottoms out.

Sfox DS : Have never played! Will eventually!
