Getting original games instead of VC

I was going to get a few VC games for my Wii when I realized Why should I get a VC game when I can get the original for just a little more money. I was going to get Ninja Spirit for the TG-16 on the Wii. I looked on ebay and I was able to get a near mint copy for $10 and that's with the shipping. I also bought Legendary Axe 2 and Galaga 90 both fo around the same price range. Anyone else, that has a huge amount of consoles, feels they are wasting money if they get games for VC that they could get for an almost comparable price for the real game. Excuse my por grammar and spelling.

I think, if you own lots of consoles, then yeah, the VC is probably not as important to you. I doubt the Critic is spending lots of Wii points on there right now (-:
But most of us don't, and even if you have a few, that assumes that they are organized, hooked up and ready to go. Part of the VC is convienance; you can play whatever Wii game you are playing and transition right to some classic game.
Another overlooked feature: The "resume" feature that most VC games have (where you can exit the game, then come back to that exact same spot later) is a real Godsend for gamers that, like myself, play this VC games in small spurts. It allowed me to slowly crawl through Super Castlevania at leisure, while not having the frustrations of playing a game like that. It's a smart move, and makes the VC worth the money.

That's cool I didn't know that they had that feature. Yes I see your points. I asked a friend about it and he said he doesn't want to have more than 2 systems hooked up to the TV. So yeah I see your point and I know people that don't have many systems will love it. I'm just saying for those few people who have many systems that are all hooked up to the TV should probably just save there money for the real thing. The reason why I think Xbox Live is different is because most of the games I get are Arcade games and there is no way that I'm going to get the real arcade at my house.

I use the Virtual Console for buying games for systems I don't have. Like SNES and TG-16, and in the future Neo Geo.

I will likely never get a Wii or current gen system (I should live so long!) , but I wanted to say I HAVE multiple systems and it's easy switching between them. I just went from 2600-5200-7800 -Intellivision in 3 weeks. The old systems (mostly) use the same RF switch box / plug so it's just a matter of leaving the adaptors out and plugging them in. Newer systems (Genesis, Snes, etc..) get hooked up to my composite monitor with RCA jacks. A BIT more hassle but not much. I can switch between my PS2 and Atari Flashback in 2 minutes! So...it's no big deal. Even if I had a Wii I'd go real system route (though I admit being able to save anywhere is a perk).

The problem with the original games is that they were designed for television sets that no longer exist. The VC games run in true low resolution and lack the old scan lines and other oddities (like that line that runs on the left side of the screen on NES games).
VC games are superior to the original versions in almost every way (with the exceptions of some passwords taken out). There is a reason why VC sales are accelerating and the original cartridges are being dumped on the market.

Theres one big difference - controllers. I like to play games with the controllers they were intended for. Neo Geo games just won't be the same without an arcade stick for one thing.
All the other benefits of the virtual console might have impressed me were it not for the fact I've done emulation on PC for years and years. And I prefer real consoels over PC emualtion, although emualtors do come in handy sometimes. Peoples adversion to emulators, seeing them as illegal is daft really, as the emulation scene helped keep classic gaming alive, and certainly rescued many games from total obscurity. There wouldnt be a virtual console without the "illegal" emulation scene.

New CRT Standard Televisions are still readily available with old games running perfectly on them. I'll take the real game and all the hassle of switching plugs over paying for emulated versions any day the same way I would never buy mp3's over vinyl or cd's.

"Old games...were designed for TV sets that no longer exist.."
You can still buy CRT sets with Coaxial cable plugs, real cheap
too! Heck, I have a 31 inch CRT I got a few years back, all of my old games WOULD run on it, but a kind neighbor gave me a small 13 inch CRT with coaxial (you can get Coaxial/Rf adaptors for cheap at Radio Shack), and I play all my old systems on that. INTV, all the ataris and Odyssey and Coleco all take the same switch box so its easy to switch. For systems with RCA plugs though, I highly reccomend an old COMMODORE 1701 Composite Monitor...the resolution is slightly higher than CRT TVS, and Genesis and SNES look BEAUTIFUL on it, as do PS2 and Xbox....NO RF interferance!
(I bought mine lonnnnng ago, 1987 I think, to use with my then new Coleco Adam computer! I later did get a C=>64 to hook up to it, and still have the 64 and Vic-20).

The main thing for me when I buy a VC game is convenience. It is a real drag hooking up a classic system just to play one game, especially when I am a person who hates clutter, and when I bring out a system, I tend to want to play a whole flurry of games for it over the next few days, mostly to make the act of setting up the console more worthwhile. The VC is really nice for game that I would play alot more often if they were more convenient. Plus, I don't own an N64, so I bought Starfox as soon as I saw that it was available. I will be picking up Ninja Gaiden very soon, almost exclusively for the resume feature. I will buy Blaster master the moment it arrives because of the resume feature, also.
