E-BAY problems

Postby Alienblue » June 12th, 2007, 1:13 pm

Well, I've had my first taste of An Ebay problem. As you know, I have no Credit Card or Account I can use myself, but a very good freind used his PAYPAL account to get an Odyssey2 system for me, the closing bid was only $12.36! (plus $15 shipping)... I thought all was fine but the A**hole seller was "uncomftorble" sending the system (which didn't even have the AC adaptor) to "a different address"....ok, fine, so my freind said no problem, send it to HIS address and he would forward it to me.... suddenly the guy gets all suspicious and thinks its all a scam and refuses to send the system, the deals off! ....ALL THAT FOR A TWELVE DOLLAR O2 SYSTEM! Is that crazy or what!? *sigh*, now I must wait for another O2 to come up for bid. (I have a like new, boxed KC Munchkin I am just dying to play!)

Any other EB horror stories?

What?  How could he think it's a "scam"??  Did you pay him?  What more does he want?  Does he think scammers are on the hunt for O2 systems to perform their "send it to a different address" scam so they can make a quick ten bucks reselling it on Ebay?  That makes no sense.  The guy is a moron.  I have been Ebaying for years and would love to ask this guy a few questions of my own.  I'd love his email address if you had the urge.

A few years ago I bought a car audio subwoofer off Ebay.  The auction had minimal information about the woofer, it just said that it was an MTX woofer, the shipping weight, and that it was new in the box, plus a picture of the woofer.  The picture was of a high end, high quality woofer from the top of the MTX line.  The woofer I received was from the absolute bottom of the MTX line.  The guy argued that it was dumb of me to assume that the woofer in the picture was the one I would receive, and that nobody in their right mind uses the picture in the listing as a reference as to what the item for sale looks like.  Can you believe that?  If I had known where to find the guy when I read that email, I might be in jail right now, or at least recently released on probation.  What a crock.

Well I had a scare about one seller having his account disabled right after the a vinyl record  was shipped! Thankfully I received it. The vinyl record I purchased from another never arrived but thankfully got a refund. People on eBay can be so nice and such jerks at the same time. Bought a 1978 classic cassette deck that matches my 1978 amplifier and tuner. Price was $10. Used e-check (paypal service) that takes about 6 business days to clear. I sent the e-Check right away and he was going crazy (when is it coming to clear, why not send a money order, blah blah blah. After eBay fees he stands to make $8 at most. What's the big deal. This is no major $50+ dollar sale.

I definitely don't see why he was afraid to send the system to your friend's address, but to your address I actually understand.  Paypal provides protection to buyers and sellers, but it only provides the protection to sellers if they actually send it to an address confirmed on the Paypal account.  So if a seller sends that to your address when your address isn't a confirmed address with that Paypal account, Paypal will basically disqualify him from their protective services.  All the Paypal account owner then  has to do is complain and he can get his money back without having to return any merchandise -- or even admit he has it.

What happened is that the system didn't sell for as much as he would have liked, so the "scam" excuse was an easy way for him to back out of the sale and get his seller's fees back from eBay.

Looks like you're the one who got scammed.

Horror stories. How about wasting $350 for a Neo Geo cd system with 25 games and never recieving anything. I took a year and a half off of ebay after that one.

I tried many ways to get my money back. The guy cancelled his account. He lived in San Juan. He scammed many people. As for you deal. Not funny. How would you like it if I joked about something that you were sensitive about.

Didn't sound like a joke to me.

I agree about the guy backing out because he didn't get as much as he wanted from the deal (He didn't have to ship it out to my address until after he had neen paid, I would be ok with the wait.)...this is why it pays to be honest. I told my freind I was willing to pay up to $30 for it, I really want an O2 (it's the only popular classic system I dont have); If he had truthfully said "Look, I'm not selling this for 12 bucks", my freind could've offered him $30! I would have been ok with that. Rhyme in time never pays I says.
