What are some good Master System games?

One game no one has mentioned that I liked is ALIEN SYNDROME, a perfect arcade port. It is like a cross between ALIENS and SMASH TV and is difficult but fun!
I'd avoid Afterburner, Golden Axe, and Space Harrier, terrible ports of some great arcade classics. Unless you want to waste your money, don't bother with them.
Well, the critic thought Golden Axe was an A-, which is squarely where I'd put it.  By and large Sega Master System fans do like Space Harrier a lot (it makes most top X lists on Sega Master System sites), but like I said, people who grew up with an NES mostly seem to really hate it.  Also like I said though, the soundtrack is indisputeably great.  I found it online and burned it to CD.  You can enter a code to enter the soundtest.

Also, with a lot of SMS games remember to get the manual or read one online, as many of the games have continue features that have to be entered with specific button presses (Space Harrier has them for example).  A lot of the games I see people complain about being too hard because of too few lives actually allow for 3 continues as long as you read the manual.
If you are using a US system, forget it, you are going to have to import from Europe and Brazil (or Australia but that had the same software as Europe). Those games will run on a US system fortunately, but they might be stretched and speeded up. That may not be a problem, but you can potentially lose part of the picture.
You dont loose any picture from games playing in NTSC, infact most games benefit from the speed up and full screen play, as thats how they were designed to be played to begin with. I modified my euro sms to switch between pal and ntsc for this purpose.

Anyone with any interest in master system really should check out games not released in the US, the master system totally dominated in europe, so we have some fantastic games. Castle of Illusion, Operation Wolf, Outrun Europa, Power Strike 2, Paperboy, Lucky Dime Caper, Asterix, New Zealand Story to name just a few.

Theres only a handful of european games that dont play on a US system, the three released codemasters games (Fantastic Dizzy, Cosmic Spacehead and MicroMachines), james bond 007, Back to the future 2, Xenon 2, and I think thats it.

As for Brazilian releases, theres lots of poor titles, but Dynamite Headdy is absolutley awesome, Baku Baku is good too.

As you might tell I'm a real master system fan, and hang out on the fabulous www.sega8bit.com site. If anyone is interested in getting hold of euro games Ive got quite a lot of spares, as do others on the site. Feel free to drop in for a chat

I will probably get one of those "Great" Sports games for humor at how bad they are. I heard that Great Basketball is the worst. Most seem like they are arcade ports that are usually superior to the NES counterparts. If I am really wanting to invest into it, I might get the 3-D games with the glasses, despite the fact that the glasses are quite rare.

Both Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 are ideal fighting game for the sega. But they are 2 main problem

If you live in USA or Canada , you can only get these game from Ebay because they are Europe only. I paid around 20 dollar for both game complete.

Also, these mortal kombat are simply direct port of the game gear game of the same names and its much easier and cheap to find them on game gear

I couldn't get the 3D effect to work, I'm not sure if it was the glasses or that I use a HDTV.  Either way, Zaxxon looked like crap and there was no sense of 3D at all.

I guess I should pull it out again some time and try it on a regular TV.  Anyone know off the top of their head?

Doesn't work for me because I'm blind in one eye and colour blind.  Got either of those problems?   Either of those things will likely lead to it not working for you.
