Not in my case, because I have yet to ever complain about VC games being available for cheaper prices on compilation discs. I agree 100% with your take on that, but my OP was dealing with the people who complain every week that Nintendo isn't releasing good enough games, or selling them at lower prices.

Well, I understand the whole idea of convinience, and I'm not bashing the VC at all, but it's not as if buying a compilation is rocket science, and in the interest of consumer choice, doesn't it make sense to educate people about all the equally effective options they have (especially when in the case of the Sonic Mega Collection, they'll still be playing it on their Wii)?

And when I mention collections, I'd recommend good collections like Sonic Mega Collection, and not bad ones like Midway Arcade Treasures 3.

I know about the compilations. Yet the last gen compilations I own stay in the ol' closet. I like the ease of just booting up the game on my system. Not that I'm buying lots of these sort of compilation discs anyway, mind you; for the exact reason that I hate the idea of fishing around for a disc that contains games that take up tiny amounts of disc space if it were on the system.

That's just me, though. Certainly compilations are a better choice for the money. But remember, there are lots of games on the VC that are not available on any compilation disc. There's been some pretty obscure SEGA and TG16 RPGs, as well as some titles that are very hard (and expensive!) to get elsewhere.

What I also like about the VC is that it fills such a huge void: that inevitable moment when you have friends over and run out of games to play. One trip to the VC channel and you can find something that will either work on a "hot seat" basis or is an outright multiplayer title, such as Bomberman on the TG16.

For me, it is both the convenience, and the ability to save in a game that normally couldn't be saved, which is why I just bought Ninja Gaiden.

As far as the obscure games you mention, I completely agree.  VC is a great deal considering how hard and expensive it can be to find some of the original titles.  And as I said, I'd still recomend downloading Ristar, as unlocking the Sonic Mega Collection version is a raging pain (that alone should show that I support the convience of VC).

So basically, I'm taking this on a case-by-case basis and when there are other options for some of these games, I'll be sure to point them out so players can make their own purchasing decision (go, capitalism!).
