VGC Hall of Fame?

Postby feilong801 » June 20th, 2007, 7:37 pm

Here's an idea:

With the massive variety of systems and reviews that just keep growing longer and longer, how about a "Video Game Critic Hall of Fame" section, where The Critic inducts the best of the best for each system?

It could be a fun addition to the site, and I imagine it would be very popular, just like the system reviews and holiday specials.

I like that idea too

Also a yearly awards show would be cool and his loyal readers could join in and help him vote. Just imagine what could have been:

GAME OF THE YEAR
Elder Scrolls (360)
Pac Man Collection (Atari 7800)
Mr. Roboto (Odyessey)
Legend of Zelda (Wii)
Okami (PS2)

FUNK

I was just gonna make a post about this today...and I got caught up in all the Manhunt 2 hoopla.

Personally I see this site as a buyers guide to some older systems.  I was thinking that it needed a buyers guide for people new to the site...or for a few of us veterans.

Each week or so we could post a system and everybody could vote on the best 15 or so games for said system.  I think the list should be simply allstar titles...not hidden gems that nobody knows about.  It should be a list of games that a person could follow if they went and tracked down a system.  They could go to the EXTRAS section of the site click on reader's top 15 NES games and see what they should get.  Thats personally I how I was gonna propose it.

I own alot of older systems and having a quick reference to something like that would be really great.  Making sure that I own all the best games that people on these forums suggests would be fantastic.

And that's where having a sortable list of games by Rank would solve that problem completely.  Seriously, if you want to play the best of the best are you going to track down a C game or an A ranked game.  Of course, I don't agree with the critic on all things but his A games are a start.

I second the "show by rank" for each system.

Hmm, well, I think the one thing about making a simple "show by rank" system that doesn't work as well as a hall of fame or "awards" idea is that sometimes a game's grade does not reflect how important it is for the system.

For example, Super Smash Brothers Melee is a very important Gamecube game. Yet the Critic grades it, I think, at a C+ or something. Same thing for Ninja Gaiden... and should any NES collector or just player for that matter be without Ninja #$%@# Gaiden? I thought not.

So, long story short, show by rank doesn't quite accomplish what I wanted in the OP.

Well it would be a start...but I would rather have a list generated by all of us on the forums.  There are plenty of games the Critic hasn't reviewed and I would much rather have a list voted on by people instead of one man's word.

Don't take that the wrong way...I love the Critic's work, but in this instance I would like the games to be voted on.  If the Critic wanted to add his own person 10 or something that would be cool too.  I dunno I'm just tossing out ideas...well piggy backing them on Rob's idea anyways.

I like your idea Rob. Would make for some good debates and smack talk, on games even!

Excellent point, I agree the option for write-ins or us providing a few extras to the hall of fame for any given system's important.  The critic hates RPGs and really how can you define the PS1 without including FF7, the same goes for the T-16 and Y's I and II.  You just can't.  It's like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without the jelly.  It's just wrong.
