On IGN.com: BioWare to make Sonic RPG for Sega (on the DS).

Let me repeat that. BioWare to make Sonic RPG for Sega
(on the DS).

...

...

...

Wha!?!?!?!

Ok, first off, BioWare's track record is extremely good. So I have little doubt that they can make the game good... but this is such an unexpected pairing!

Looks like Sega is taking a cue from Nintendo and attempting to "whore out" its premiere franchise to formats that don't fit the source material. My beloved blue childhood friend's legacy will be further sullied.

I disagree.  Considering Bioware's excellent track record (particuarly with MDK 2 and KOTOR), I think this may actually become in the best Sonic game in a while.  And hey, at least Sega's taking the series away from Sonic Team, if only for this game.

Considering what they've done to the series recently, Sonic Team deserves to have it taken away from them for good (just like what happened to Core with Tomb Raider).

HAHAHA!  Oh, I'm sorry, that was the best joke I've read in awhile.  Imagine, hehe, pretending Sonic's Legacy could still be sullied.  Oh yeah, Sonic and Bin Laden both need to care about further sullying of their names.  You couldn't hurt the Sonic Legacy any worse than it is already hurt if you made a game where he played Hitler.  The name is worth jack squat already.

It's not too off the mark when it comes to relationships though.  Back in December Sega posted a press release stating Obsidian would be developing a game for them.  Obsidian just so happens to be the same dev studio behind the farmed out KOTOR 2 from BioWare.

As a result, the underpinnings for further relationships are there.  As for whether or not an RPG based on the Sonic franchise will be any good is up for debate.  Though with Bio-Ware at the helm there's little need to worry.

If it wasn't for the whole Sonic thing, I'd be pretty happy that Bioware was making an RPG on the DS. As it is, I imagine the game will probably still be better than most of the Sonic games I've seen recently.

This sounds like a horrible idea.   I'm sure they got the idea for this from the awesome Mario RPG games.  But lets face it, the Mario world is a far better world than the sonic world.    Most people just like sonic and going through all the crazy loops.    But everyone hates all the annoying characters like Tails, Big the Cat, Amy, That Gator in tennis shoes, The white Sonic looking guy, that flying catdevil looking thing... hell I can't remember the names of all those characters.  Ok, maybe Knuckles  Dr.Eggman, and Metal Sonic aren't so bad, but that's about it.

On the other side look at the Mario series.  Yoshi, Wario, Bowser, the Bowser Kids, Goombas, and Koopa troopas.   Everyone loves those characters, and that is part of the reason why the Mario games translated so good into the RPG realm.   A sonic game is all about speed, and everytime they slow him down and introduce a bunch of characters, he ends up sucking.  And isn't the very definition of an RPG?
