That's pretty much the reception it's gotten everywhere. A wholly disappointing game offering nothing but the ability to see pokemon battles in full 3D, and a couple more challenging opponents to take on. I don't really see the point of this thread - this is certainly not the first disappointing game in the franchise (Pokemon Channel and Pokemon Dash says hi), and certainly other huge franchises have had their misses as well.

I've never myself played a Pokemon game in my life, and certainly do not plan to.
Make no mistake, however: Bozon could have said this for his review:
"I knew this might be a stripped down experience, but this seems extreme: The game only consists of an animated Iwata head in an endless laughing loop."
Oh, and, because this IS an IGN Wii review:
"I couldn't figure out the controls."
The game would still sell a million copies.

Pretty much what I expected.
Nintendo just doesn't seem to get that even the normal handheld gameplay won't hold up on a home console, let alone the watered down battle crap that they usually push. I got burned on Colosseum, and I haven't gotten a console version since. Nintendo needs to wake up and smell the coffee: a console Pokemon game requires a LOT more work than they've put in recently.

I played the first Pokemon on my old Gameboy color (in black and white, Pokemon blue) MANNNY years ago. I kinda sorta got into it, enough to get the guide.
Has anyone played the GBA Pokemon Ruby/Saphire ones? I can get them for 9 bucks, but I'm debating..I like quick games now like MARIOKART, don't have hours anymore. Can you still save? Are they as fun as the first one?

Hey, watch it! Some of us love that little franchise of aborable monsters kicking each other's asses. When I get a Wii, I will pick this up. IGN can eat sh!t and die for all I care.
Oh, Adamant, I know you hate me and think I'm a moron, but I own and like Pokemon Channel and Dash. Dash is mediocre. Probably the worst Pokemon game, but I still got a lot of fun out of it. And although it's short and has little to no replay value, I love Pokemon Channel, and consider it to be one of the most underrated games on the Gamecube.

Trust me, Dave. They are so worth it. I do however reccommend Emerald more, if you can get it. Saving is still an option. (Trust me, you WILL need it.), and they are MORE fun than the originals. But, I must warn you: DO NOT PICK THE BERRIES. Something awful happens to your game if you do. That's a crappy glitch in R+S.

Nothing against it personally. They are probably fun games. But I can't play em' all, and the style and presentation of Pokemon is a bit of a turnoff.
Also, I'm having my first kid soon, and my *hope* is that I can avoid infatuations with annoying things like the Pokemon cartoons by not having anything like that around to influence them with (-:

Thanx Koopa, Is Saphire GBA or DS? They had just about every POKEMON GBA game in the ones I tested, including an animated cartoon. Has anyone here bought/rented/watched those GBA "movies" on cart? I watched a LITTLE Rugrats, the animation is amazing for GBA. My girlfreind used to be into the Pokemon cartoon (pikache is sooo cute!) ...I just like the challenge.
I take it strategy guides are available?
