I was originally planning on buying an SD card for the Wii until I heard something that I'm not sure is true. I heard that any VC game that you download will be downloaded to the memory card but it will ALSO be downloaded to system's eternal memory!!! WTF??? So that pretty much means that, no matter what, there is a cap to how many VC games I can own?? If this is true, what is the point of even owning a friggin' card, aside from saving my game data? Could somebody please try to put my mind at ease and tell me that I'm not reading this correctly or that there's more to it than what I'm getting!
What is the point in the Wii's SD card anyway?!

False. You can have a game on the SD card and not the system's memory, then transfer when you wish. However, there is never a cap on the Virtual Console games you can own. You can delete the games to make room in your memory, and then re-download them free of charge. I just bought an SD card for my Wii so I can listen to my own music in Excite Truck. I imagine more games in the future will feature that, and I also bet Nintendo will make the SD card more useful.

I don't think you can download games on them at all.

You can download pictures from your digital camera into the Wii to edit.

About why an SD card is a good idea for the Wii, of course it can hold your saves, but you can also put MP3s onto it and use them as custom soundtracks in Wii games that support the feature. Right now, I think Excite Truck is the only one that allows you to do this.

That's not true. When you download a VC game, you do indeed download it to the VC memory, but you can then copy it to your SD card and delete it from VC memory. To play the game, however, it must be recopied back to VC memory. The VC only works from its own memory as far as game saves and VC titles are concerned, treating the SD card as a backup.
Just remember that backing up those games for your own piece of mind isn't really necessary -- the games are always available for redownload from the Wii store. Once you've bought a VC game, all subsequent downloads of that VC game to the same console are free. You could conceivably own them all but have none in your Wii system memory -- only downloading them when you feel like playing them, and then deleting them after.

After spending all day putting a slide show together of my disney world trip for my kids on it, downloading my own bands songs to listen to as I play Excite Truck, playing Actraiser, Military Madness, Super Paper Mario, and utilizing the Everybody votes channel with my wife before a rousing game of Wii Bowling... I have no clue.
