The King of Kong

This documentary seems right up VGC's alley.  It is being released later this year by Picturehouse (in limited release).

trailer: http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809834006/video/3053794/

It is really a great movie for fans of classic gaming, and even non-gamers (my gf loved it and she stays away from anything video game-related)

I just finished watching the trailer, and for the first 30 seconds, I thought it was a joke.  But judging from the trailer, it could be quite entertaining.  And god, Billy Mitchell's hair was so feathered, I was waiting for him to fly away.  God bless the psuedo-mullet.

Poor Billy Mitchell. Clearly, the steroid abuse is catching up to him

[/QUOTE] That's actually very out of date and the movie goes well beyond that event

Hey Critic, what would you say is the best home port of Donkey Kong and DK junior?

Well, the Atari 8-bit (aka Atari XEGS) systems had one with all the screens, as did the Commodore 64 version.  I think they are considered the best.

i've sent the 'king of kong' trailer link to some of my friends, and they, like me, really want to see this movie.  the trailer really sells the movie, and the last comment made by billy mitchell in the trailer is absolutely brilliant.  the movie comes out august 17th and 24th in selected cities, and i plan on being there to see it.  granted, it could be a dud, but i doubt it.  let's face it, can any movie about 'donkey kong' be bad?  .....(remembers the flick with anthony hopkins)....on second thought, strike that.

They made a movie about Donkey Kong? Cool! I'd see that.

Anyway, most of you will never know this but the BEST HOME VERSIONS of DK and DKjr are the Coleco Adam Computer "supergames" that came on Datasette (in boxes shaped like the coin-ops!) and contanied EVERY screen and special effect in the correct order. They were 128K games, huge for the day, and simply AMAZING in 1983-84!

The Atari 8-bits are very good, but I'd give second best award of these games to the 7800. The screens are presented all at once and DK is still missing the "pie" screen; but take it from an old coin-op hand, the PIE screen is a throw-away ANYway; you only have to get to the second level from the top-you don't have to get to the girl-to pass this way too easy stage.
